8mb Nildram, dodgy results :/

erm, getting similar thingy myself. Im on 8mb with BT but on this test(trying it just for fun), I get just over 5000 kb/s?!?

No, not in the slightest, in fact quite good for 8Mbps

Remember you are never going to get the full speed on a speedtest due to overheads, background programs using bandwidth, heavy local traffic, heavy traffic on the remote server (it's being OcUKed ), distance from exchange, quality of line, distance between router and master socket, etc etc etc


Further to the above, as with all BB providers it is an 'Up To' 24Mbps service, the provider is in no way obliged to provide the full speed if it is not possible in your case. Though if you are getting that sort of speed maximum all the time it may be worth seeing if you can get a cheaper 8Mbps service as it should provide a comparable speed

I’m just curious about what sort of connection everyone has these days. I thought I’d get a more accurate result from posting here, as everybody in the hardware forums are probably enthusiasts with uber connections.

Hehe, I love hardware and will never not like it. I love computers, gadgets etc. etc.... but here we are on a farm with 7 computers and quite a lot of expensive hardware with a rubbish unreliable 512k connection .

We'd be on 4.5MB in our old house though.

If you want to be pedantic, it's 4Mbps. 4mbps is 4.8828125 × 10^-7 kilobytes per second (since lower case m = milli, ergo 4mbps = 4/1000 bits per second).

Download about 50-100 gig a month id say, sometimes more sometimes less.
