What spray paint for resiliency on plastic

I'm going to be re-spraying a bit of plastic that holds things like keys, coins, etc. It's a centre armrest cubbyhole. It has had it's day and a 5 min respray should make the eye sore go away (boom, I should be a rapper).

It's only a few bolts until it's out of the car so not spraying it in the car.

My question is, typical spray paint from Halfords probably won't be very resilient against keys and what have you. It will start chipping/scraping/scratching fairly fast. So, what other options do I have?

Finish with a coat of clear lacquer ?

Will it be too brittle? The plastic will take some knocks, from phones being dropped into it, keys bashing around, loose coins etc.

Plasticote it. It's flexible so won't crack and craze like paints can.

Probably some car spray from Halfords, with a varnish of some sort on top.

When I wanted to freshen up some aged black plastic on my Corrado door trim I lightly sanded it, used primer specifically for plastic, a black topcoat again for plastic and then a clear varnsh. It look like new several years later. The varnish will make it a little shiny though.

Hence the lacquer, being more hard-wearing than varnish.

Yes it works very well, I used it to change the interior colour of an old Mustang from hideous pale blue to menacing black

Painted everything, door cards, dash, plastic panels, headlining, it even worked on the steering wheel.

Just degrease everything thoroughly and it will work a treat.
