What the heck are these for?

I worked for Hutchinson 3g (Launched as the '3' phone service) when they were setting up the countries coverage a few years ago. It was when all the guff about masts giving you cancer was flying about and landlords and land owners were a bit iffy about letting them be set up.

So, they found different ways of disguising them like dressing them as guttering downpipes, side bars of advertising boards etc. There are a lot more about than you'd ever notice.

There are also one on the roof of pretty much every flat or office block in Birmingham hidden out of view by screens, or disguised


I've never seen them actually near anything but it turns out they power traffic sensors under the road.

Not always the case, there's loads in the village my GF's family live (Alvechurch) and they help to power the street lights.
