Right, I just signed up to Paypal after buying the Humble Bundle as a guest.

Total: $8.79 USD
From amount: £5.84 GBP
To amount: $8.79 USD
Exchange rate: 1 GBP = 1.50513 USD

My bank account was at £120.87p
afterwards it was at £112.03

Meaning Paypal took £3 for their own pleasure? Seriously!? That's over 50%!

I did sign up to Paypal afterwards though, and it said to look out for a small amount of money being deposited into my account to confirm it as Paypal, is that where the £3 went, will they put it in later? My friend said they never take and place more than 99p...

Paypal transactions amounts are clearly outlined in the final transaction printout, if it said £5.84 then that is what was taken. Are you sure the unaccounted for £3 is from Paypal?

How do you know £3 was taken other than the balance does not seem to add up? Is there an actual debit entry for £3 attributed to PayPal?

Yeah, I was online banking at the same time, because I wanted to keep an eye on things, I wanted to spend no more than £5.87 to leave me with at least £115. It was £120.87 about 20 second after I confirmed the Humble Bundle purchase, then about 5 minutes afterwards I checked again, as its pure habit, I do the same when buying from anything.

Kaboom, £8.84 gone instead of £5.84. £3 isn't much normally, but I need to have £115 in there minimum for personal reasons. So I'm quite honestly furious at this.

I get a bank charge for USD, it's about £1.50 but I suppose that's different depending on the bank. As has been said Paypal tell you exactly what charges there are and a final amount.

So NationWide might have taken it? Why isn't HumbleBundle multi currency? Wish I gave them $0 tip now...

I've never been charged to pay for anything with PP.

I paid 27 Euros this week for a product via PayPal, it equated to £25.06, £25.06 came out of my bank account

The same has occurred for USD purchases also.

Maybe it's because I have HSBC Advance with no f.ex charges? I don't know? That would be a bank charge not a PP one anyway surely?

Well Nationwide apparently do a 2% fee + £1 standard on foreign transactions, that'd work out at what £1.12p or so? Thats what the website says, argh.

Still does not make sense though.

Paypal do the f.ex at thier (preferential to them) rates and debit your bank account in YOUR currency.

Did it take it from your account in USD because you paid as a non-subscribed customer perhaps? If USD was taken from your bank account rather than GBP then this is likely a bank applied charge.

£3 is 51.4% of £5.84, what would have happened if I ever paid I don't know, £5,840 for an all inclusive freakin holiday in America or whatever, would whoever stole my money take £3,000 of that too? C'mon now...

You've Paid Paypal £5.84 from you bank.
There should be no exchange fee's or anythign like that from your bank as paypal have clearly charge you in GBP then used their own fantasy world exchange rate :)

Exactly, I can guarantee on my life and soul thereafter, I have not done anything with that £3, I baught Arma II Combined earlier for £24.99, but my balance was £120.87 afterwards.

In my experience paypal do allt he conversions. What they say they're going to take is what they take.

Maybe pop down to your local branch/online banking/ATM and get a mini statement? :)

Never had such a problem either, they never took anything extra.
And I exclusively use it to shop abroad so usually in GBP or USD.

I can get an online statement, yet I need Adobe PDF Reader, not gonna get to play DayZ tonight am I? If I do I better not see NW or PP or I'll pk their thieving anuses...anus's... ¬_¬... Ani.

EDIT: Wait nope, only statement they have online for me is Jan 2012 this year :D awww :)

Yeah it won't be Paypal that is the issue here. Also don't you have online banking that has an itemisation of your account transactions? It's more than likely you buying something else for £3 and forgetting though or a bank charge for using the bank (aimed at the bank not you :p).
