WHAT THE HELL PAYPAL!?

Still think its something to do with the use of a card for the first time on an un-verified account.

You just made that up - lol.

Paypal have NEVER charged to use a card for "first time on an un-verified account".

Either contribute facts to the thread else your just making it full of even more untruths.

Also, can this be moved to GD for the lols?

Many years using Paypal and knowing how it works :)

Makes you an expert, does it. I have used pp for around 8 yrs business and personal to receive and send payments. They still make me sit up and take notice every now and then.
Your remarks are just childish, grow up..

Heres some sound monetary advice: If you need money in your account for something important don't buy games off of steam with it...

Why? I can do simple maths, its not hard to take say; £24.99 away from i don't know... £150.66 no? It's not brain melting maths, and Steam don't charge anything other than what the game costs. The Humble Bundle shouldn't of set me below what I needed, yet it did.

Christ Alive, you are peeing your pants about £3!

If you needed £3 so much you shouldn't have brought the games.

Mate, I need £115 for payments and rent and other things that I need, not want or could use, need. I did the maths carefully to see how much I could spend without going below £115, which it shouldn't of, there wasn't anything to even read about possible money being taken, and as everyone else here has said paypal shouldn't of charged, and if they haven't then I need to find out what has. Either way its fine as I went into town today and deposited some money to top up my balance past £115, its just inconvenient that I had to. I'm gonna make it one my life goals to find out what it was :p! I mean hell, if its something to do with my bank, then I really need to know everything about this kind of thing for the future, so its best I find out. Ignorant online banking doesn't pay as this has proved. :p

Still think its something to do with the use of a card for the first time on an un-verified account, I’m sure it will be returned, but may take a day or two, if really worried ask the bank if they can give you an idea what’s happened.

@Hank Marvin
If I lost £3 for every internet transaction I make using paypal as a payment processor, I would worry, it would cost me a pretty large amount after a years financial transactions. Checking online bank account straight after a purchase, only tells me how much payment went out, not always to who or where, until the following day or day after that..

.

Maybe, I'll have to check my statement and fully complete my Paypal registration.

?? what? I don't understand this at all. In my online banking I have a list of every single transaction and the recipient, along with the value. is yours just one entry with a single bottom line figure and no recipients?!

No idea, unless there is a delay on Nationwide or if I have to wait until the end of the month for the statement, I have scoured that website for a good 20 minutes searching for something to do with statements, I found them but the statements that were there were Jan 2012, Nov and Oct 2011 and Oct 2010. Funny cause I've only just started using a debit card.

Not talking about online statements, just saying that immediately after a purchase if I check online the account it came from, it does not always tell me straight off where the payment went, just how much was debited (debit card type transaction), it can be the following day or day after that to tell me the name of the recipient , thats my online bank provider anyway, your may be different..
Obviously in statements it gives all details I'm talking about a few minutes after transaction, if I bother to check..

You probably bought a sandwich or something on your card and forgot about it.

@HR4: Why do you put that extra dot at the end of your messages? It's quite infuriating.

Don't fight please. :(

Just giving my view Omaeka, could tell you were concerned, as I would be. Sometimes views are not liked, I can live with that, but for someone to say I made it up, is childish.

By the way the world is square, hang on, I might have just made that one up...:D

The Op is the one blaming Paypal for something which is ENTIRELY not their fault.

Aren’t you wild guessing..

Or are you giving a view..

Paypal have NEVER charged to use a card for "first time on an un-verified account".

You do not even need a Paypal account to make a card transaction through their processing gateway.

Also, "having used the service for around 8 years" you should know that when verifying an account, Paypal make DESPOSITS into accounts, they do not take money. Even then, those deposits are pennies, not pounds.

That was fact.

Thank you.

If it helps, although I think I've already stated this; on HumbleBundle I paid as a 'Paypal Guest' and then signed up afterwards.

Then having used the service for around 8 years, you should be able to contribute more to the thread untruths which helps nobody, surely?

Its for that exact reason. I have used pp thousands of times and they still do things that I can’t fathom out.

Tell me why its an untruth ?

If this is such a desperate situation you need answers now and your online banking facility does not provide the information you require, there is still the two major forms of contact with your bank.

You can go to a branch and speak to someone or you can pick up a phone and speak to someone.

Paypal have been nothing but spot on in my experience. If they were a bunch of bandits taking random amounts from people's banks do you think they would have become one of, if not the, major online payment facility for the planet?

Feel like I'm being a bit of a jackass here but raging and blaming something when you don't have facts isn't getting you anywhere.

If you are that worried, phone up your bank and ask them to break down the debits on your account. Or just wait for the payments to appear online.

I've used paypal a LOT. The amount listed in £ on the statement above is exactly what they take, nothing more.
People are mentioning the verification fee. When I opened my account, this was in pennies, not pounds, but maybe it's gone up. If it is this, it will reappear in your account in under a week.

More likely possibilities:
* a bank charge for some reason: but since paypal do all currency conversaions and charge you in your own currency, this is very unlikely
* There is another payment of £3 for something you have forgotten, that didn't appear on your account immediately.

One thing you NEED: online banking for your main account, so you can check your bank statement online and see every transaction made.

Yeah maybe it is that, but £3 seems a little steep, and an odd number, I'd understand 50p or £1 or even £5/£10, but 3?

I dont even know what this would come under, foreign transaction? Well Nationwide certainly don't charge 51.4% interested on those, nowhere does.

I haven't and I swear on every part of my existence bought anything I don't know about.

The Op has stated he made the payment BEFORE creating the Paypal account so there was no "un-verfied" account for him to be charged against at the time of the transaction.

That is how we know it is now an untruth.
