Ive been waking up quite regularly at roughly 4am-5am in the morning for quite some time now (years).

This isn't by choice, I'm not setting an alarm, I'm not bursting for a wee, I'm not too hot or anything like that but I'm just waking up naturally really early and I'm wondering if it is something that may need exploring further or its just my body is getting enough rest every night.

Granted, I do go to bed quite early, will generally be in bed and asleep between 9.30 and 10.30pm and don't really ever have late nights but it's actually getting quite frustrating now that I can't seem to "sleep in" and feels like once I'm awake Im pretty much fully awake.

I don't drink a lot of coffee either, I have a max of one a day probs around 8/9am so not sure if is the coffee impacting my sleep.

I had been reading that I could be a sign of some underlying medical issues but I'm just curious if the amount of sleep I'm getting is about average or more or less than others?

I have absolutely no issues in falling asleep and will generally be out like a light in a matter of mins.

Again I know this is quite a vague and broad question as every one is different and everyone will need different amounts of sleep to function.

I do wake up early, admittedly not quite as early as you on a reggular basis, 6 am/5:30 am is not unusual.

If I wake up at "night" anything past about 4am I usually will get up as I know Ill never get back to sleep.

The Mrs is the opposite, she could sleep until midday, I am quite jealous actually.

My Mrs is the same, she could sleep in a washing line.

She is a midwife and works shifts so I guess she is built a bit diff to me when it comes to ceasing any sleep she can get haha.

Monday to Friday in bed between 10 1030 and up at 530 for work. At the weekend in bed by midnight and up between 7-8 now that the kids like to have a lay in these days.

My sister used to be like that, not sure if still is, out like a light by 10pm, up at 5am and couldn't sleep in - once awake she'd have to get up.

I'm kind of the opposite - left to my own devices I tend to settle into 3am-11am routine and can easily sleep in.

23ish and 515 alarm weekdays and job weekend every 3rd.

I'm tired. :P probably need one of them CPAP things.

22:30 - 23:00 and then up by 05:00 - 05:30.

When I'm awake I get up, so it's annoying when I get woken up at 3/4am.

In bed by 11-12 most nights, up at 7am. Usually need a wee in the middle of the night though. Put that down to age and drinking far too much coffee.

The quality of the sleep is more important than the amount.
yes when you can get some accurate home EEG/sleep monitors I'd like to analysis how much REM sleep I get, with typical 9pm espressos or late night tv.

Usually waking 5:30, but don't have full blackout in bedroom - not overlooked, so maybe the sun in summer

usually before midnight and wake up around 7 or 8. I sometimes wake up at around 4 for an hour or so. Get up, have a drink, go back to bed and listen to the radio.

Well, I’m on 4 on 8 off watches, so my sleep pattern’s a dumpster fire at the moment. Try to get to sleep around 2130 when my alarms set for 0330, but usually find I’m still awake around 2230-2300, then I usually wake up and check my phone thinking I have hours yet, only to find it’s 0315-0320 or so.

After my watch I normally get caught up with “overtime”, unpaid extra work that the shipping industry depends on it seems, so I normally have breakfast, then try to sleep for an hour or 2 between 0930-1130 typically. Lunch around 1200, watch something on my laptop for abit and then do whatever else I need to do for the day (laundry etc), and then it’s back down to the engine room for 1545 to be on watch 1600-2000.

So I think I’m getting by on roughly 6 hours sleep or so.

Used to go to bed at 11 but wake up around 4-5 times a night eventually getting up at 9 or so.
Docs ended up putting me on a small dose of Lorazepam and now I wake up once around 4-5am, and get up at 9-10am.
