if they cared for their pet instead of letting it roam free where there are cars and other animals capable of killing it, then it wouldnt be dead

washing up bowl, allotment or back garden, length of rope..keeps you in bait for your fishing for a few days

It's a cat. The vast majority just insist on going wherever they want. Perfectly normal for them to go on a wander. This is just an unfortunate accident.

....and natural. Cats are not designed to be couped up in a house.

Take the cat to your local vet and explain the situation. Get them to scan for a chip. If he has one, they can contact the owner. If not, then there is not a lot you can do. Just post up the details on one of the missing cat websites and also contact your local vets and cat charities to enquire if one matching the description has been reported missing. You can also ask around your neighbourhood.

It really all depends on how much effort you want to make. But I do know that if you do find the owner they will be very grateful for your effort.

If you want to take photos of the cat and any distinctive markings it can help. Then you can contact the council for advice on disposal. If you do not wish to bury the cat in your garden you can take it to a council waste facility for incineration. I would advise against simply throwing it in the bin.
