"A high-pitched device used to disperse teenagers is being challenged by campaigners, who say it is not a fair way to treat young people."

Following on from this news, what would you think is the best method to control teenagers in our era?

I personally would like to see National Service introduced and forced for people over the age of 15. They spend 2-4 years where they either learn a A-Level or college style education and leave to join university or work. Or they continue on in the army.

What's your thoughts?

Battle Royal

PERIOD.

Second that.

Who do you expect to run your shops, McDonalds, KFCs etc etc?

Even the Poles wont do them as they will all be in Subway.

hmm breach of human rights?....using speakers will also annoy children not causing a nuisance, and also scare off local wildlife.

Local wild life outside McDonald's ?

The human right thing can be easily over come.

Opt out of the European Convention of Human Rights treaty, leave EU, pass a law in parliment, then it'll be legal :p Battle Royal here it comes !

It's fair in my opinion since it would distress babies and children, and the odd teenager who isn't up to something.

Someone above mentioned national service. This country has needed a national service scheme for ages.

If it's a breach of human rights for them to be subjected to sound coming from a speaker why do I have to listen to them broadcasting poop from a mobile phone speaker?

Actually saw a sensible idea re national service on another forum recently it simply said that anyone between the ages of 17-25 who had been unemployed for more than a set period say 12 or 18 months got free training in a trade, however this training was delivered as part of a compulsery 2-3 year spell in the armed forces.

Why should children that obey the law be forced into national service?

It's not a bad thing - some countries have national service, and it helps build discipline and character, and gets you perhaps that little bit more ready for the long road ahead. I do think the UK badly needs it.

More local police officers?

People who are actually invested into a local community rather than just some anaonymous faces you never see twice and "community police officers" who always look scared and have no power?

it used to be the local populus of kids would know the local law enforcement and would regularly see them on the beat. From what I told, of course they still got into trouble and did stupid things but they were at least wary. Now however I know from certain family members that they simply do not care.

In one cousins words "there in't nothing they can do to us so why should I care?"

And he was right, or he was until he got past 18, then he got into serious trouble as he was finally an adult... but that's a different story.

Also re: national service. Im not sure if this is an appropriate example and please tell me to edit it out if anyone thinks it isn't.

I don't know how many of you knew Pyro (whoops, sorry Paras!!) on these forums. As a longtime member (no really.. i've been here since 2001!) He probably never knew I existed but I certainly read his posts. He was a very happy vibrant young guy who loved having fun with his life. Yet he went in for national service and is now dead. I don't want to sound like im sure of the facts but even Paras' case aside, look into the suicide rates of young people in countries with forced national service. NOBODY should be forced to become a "warrior" for their country, not in the west, not while we have the concepts of free speech and a free society.

Get rid of the politically correct mob, bring back some discipline and instil some respect for elders.

Sounds radical, but I think the nanny state's soft touch is responsible for the majority of scumbags roaming the streets today.

What do you propose specifically?
