Basically what of that should i be upgrading atm? reason im thinking of upgrading is because the game i play BF3, im running at High settings, and it runs it fine kinda, in hectic parts and quite a few areas my fps drops to the low 40's, high 30's and i notice the "fps lag". Usually it ranges from like 55-65 otherwise when theres not much going on in the open areas of maps.

Ive always wanted to overclock my cpu thinking that will make a difference? however ive no experience in doing so and im kinda scared incase i ****
something up!

cheers

card is an XFX if thats what you meant?

By heatsink you mean fan? i have a cpu cooler also, quite a big thing lol. Il have to open it up and have a look at what one but i thinks its decent.

Budget, depends on how many upgrades i need i guess, dont mind spending a bit to future proof, specially if you say keep them 4 things means it frees money for something else! I find it hard to be specific when it comes to money cuz i always spend way to much anyway lol

ohhh sorry, thought id wrote it down, its a 5870

i did have 2 4870 crossfired before, but i always found them running really hot cuz they were close togetehr in my case, because i think my sound card takes a slot. coolermaster haf 9** is my case

My CPU on the standard clock 2.66ghz, is that good enough to support one of the better cards out now? or do i deffo need to overclock it.

Someone suggested a 6850 2gb, is that a big difference?

yea its just frustrating when i feel i cant run bf3 at ultra smoothly, so i play at High, which is nice and im fine with it but when i notice a bit of fps slow down on that to it annoys me, so my ocd kicks in and tells me i need to upgrade something lol

Ok i just downloaded prime95 and ran it. and my temps were at like 90+ :O usually they idle at around 35-40. So no idea why this is, is that what the program does? i havent overclocked yet btw, but i found a good guide to do it. Some fan in my pc has been making an "intermittent" sound i guess is the best way to explain it, like its not smooth kinda sound. maybe its the cooler?

heres the screenshot after a few mins with prime95

thats my cpu cooler

thats my case, i have 2 fans fitted to the side of the case, the rear fan isnt working, i cant find where the cable goes to , it kidna goes behind the sound card, then dissapears.. :S Ive cleaned it for dust again, altho theres some still in there dunno how to get it all out. but fans are prettty clear of dust.

My graphics card runs pretty low temp i think

removed it sorry, couldnt find it otherwise, i didnt build my pc, i bought it prebuilt from overclockers. So im not sure on that.

is it easy to remove and check those things?

i watched them videos you linked on youtube in a different thread on how to build a pc last night, which gave me a good idea. Il order some thermal paste and give this a go.

Do i need the TIM remover to get the old stuff off or isit doable without?

thank you. If i cant get this all sorted, im tempted with my £600-700 budget (being more specific now) just buy a loAd of new parts and build a pc myself in this case so i can learn how to do it myself, so i can learn and see how stuff actually works. Feel so clueless right now !

K got my paste this morning, removed, added the new stuff.. Now omg was the most annoying thing ever trying to put the cooler back on, the screws wouldnt lift enough to atatch to the plate etc I was scared i was ruining the paste i addeed, was a nightmare lol.

also there was loads of dust in the heatsink which ive cleaned.

Got it on though eventually, now my idle cpu twemps are in the 20's instead of late 30's , early 40's. So i run prime and my max temp hits 49

theres a screenie, so do you guys think everything is fine now? safe to overclock it or?

ah, i found the connection for it, was stuffed behind the cooler.. However, i have no idea where to plug it into? there doesnt seem to be a free connection.. and the cable doesnt seem long to stretch anywhere. Ive checked the motherboard manual but still not sure.
