What type of salt do you use for boiling pasta?

Seeing as salt is soluble I'd say yes?

For a non pisstaking answer. I use the same salt for pasta as I do for when boiling rice. Regular salt.

Well yeah, if you are disolving it in water or a sauce it makes sod all difference.

Some examples of where one type is more prefereable...If you are seasoning a steak you'd want chunkier crystals, if making bread mix you'd want it as fine as possible.

You wouldn't use chunky salt crystals for baking though, same as you wouldn't use granulated sugar, you'd use caster sugar as its finer and blends/melts easier/more evenly.

It's the same stuff but some 'form factors' are more suited to certain scenarios than others.

Yeah exactly. I use granulated/cheap table salt for dry brining meat. If you try and use chunky flakes they just fall off. But on the flipside, a pinch of sea salt flakes over a sliced steak/roast is wonderful.

Maybe I'm saving gas by using granulated table salt in my pasta water? ;)

Whatever brand of coarse sea salt is in my grinder. I push the button for a sec or two and that's it.
We only buy sea salt and use the usual stuff you buy in the supermarkets in the grinder for pasta and the like.

But why?

Just look at the price difference...if you're just going to chuck it into some hot water to disolve, then just use the cheapest table salt if you don't need the texture....

Check me out, I'm minted! :D

Lads, lads, keep this to yourselves ok, I don't want this getting round too much as it will spoil it, but I don't know if you've noticed there are these yellow plastic bins dotted around, usually near pavements or car parks, where you can get free salt! Absolutely free like. I don't know why whoever it is has decided to store their salt in such an unsecured fashion, but strike while the iron is hot I say. They even forgot to take the shovel they must have used to fill the bins away and left it in the bin. It is so easy, I think the guy before me must have been caught stealing it, as it looks like he spilt some on the floor. Actually there was a trail leading towards the car park where I assume he had parked. He must have took absolute bucket loads. Anyway, best to make sure the coast is clear before you partake.
