What upgrades to do on my MTB

About £250 for front and back Hope M4.
Cheers.
Currently just chucking ideas around, but my first priority is wheels.
TBH I'm perfectly happy the Hayes, and haven't reached anything like their limit. And will go for new Forks before brakes anyways.

Hmm, What would a complete new braking system cost?

Personally I'd go for a set of Avid Juicy 5s, these are great brakes and you can get a set for under £200. I had a problem with one of the bladders, but I replaced that and bled them, and now they're running really well.

I'd take the toe clips off immediately, if you cane it off-road in toeclips and come off, you can do yourself some serious damage. Similarly if you're riding off-road and you're not in your toe clips, it makes it a lot easier to catch something on the ground stopping your bike dead but not you.

DX SPDs for the win, I've had a pair of the original ones for about 7 years, and they're brilliant. They're very hard wearing and they're rideable for short distances in other shoes.

Everyone is saying about the toe clips :D
Well, incase I ever deciede to actually listen to them :p
  1. What's a good set of cleats for MTB'ing?
  2. What's a good set of cleats that can also be used in 'normal' shoes?

Yeh pretty much. But tbh, M647's aren't very good with non-spd shoes, get the 636's instead if that's what you're after. And imo, 661 shoes > shimano ones ;).

With regards to shoes, am I right in thinking that you need a special set of shoes eg. Shimano MO38 and then a set of cleats that you bolt into the shoes eg. Shimano Cleats SH51?
And this set-up would work fine with the M647's?

All pedals come with cleats anyway, so you don't need to buy them.

Does anyone rate Crank Bros Mallets, I was considering a set when my 636s finally die?

They're nice, but imo their new pedal, the Acid is better, but tbh, I prefer the shimano system, the click as you clip in is reassuring ;).
