I think it might have been counterstrike. I can't quite remember. The first game I really do remember playing a lot online was Jedi Knight Outcast. That was great fun Then thats where I got the bug for downloading heaps of mods and maps
Never did play any of the older games on multiplayer as I was a bit late to the party. I wish I had though.
Phantasy Star Online was my first on the Dreamcast which was pretty fun then Dark Age of Camelot on pc which in my opinion(and many others) was best mmorpg ever made and just a shame it wasn't advertised much in Europe. If part 2 was made i would pay £100 for it in a heartbeat.
Beta 3/4 counterstrike I believe.... Trying to remember some old maps, can't other than possibly oil rig and the "training" level with the killhouse and shooting range.
First linked-up computer game I played was probably Lotus 2 on the Amiga. One null-modem cable let you play 4-player games - 2 players on each Amiga
The first real MMO I played was in 1995 when at uni. A few students used to run a MUD called Midnight. Somehow they managed to get it installed on one of the uni servers without any admins discovering (or maybe they did and didn't care? who knows...).
The first online MUD I played was Zebedee in 1996, which had a load of people from different universities playing - Amazingly, it's still going! Here it is if anyone wants a play http://zebedee.silverden.com/java/Launcher.html
Then I got into Quake2 around 1998 and never looked back
