What was the first online multiplayer game you played?

counterstrike.

So many config hacks to get a decent ping on dial-up, I miss the good old days with the OcUK clan, their server and all of the usual suspects.

You kids don't understand how spoilt you are :p

Diablo. That damn game has a lot to answer for.

On 56k modem. My housemates at Uni couldn't get on the phone line between 10pm to around 5/6am as I was on Diablo. £200 a month telephone bill as average for me back then.

I was into a lot of LAN stuff back then as well - namely Quake2/3, Starcraft and the occasional bit of HalfLife Deathmatch, as well as some UT.

Quake 3 consumed me when Diablo started drying up as I'd 'upgraded' to 64Kb/128Kb BT ISDN 'Home highway' lines.

Phone Bill doubled *winces*

Left Uni, got wise and just played offline stuff until Broadband/flat fee come around. But fun online times back then.

AvP on mplayer (and wireplay) with some kind of dialup (probably 28.8k to start with).

Though I'd played a couple of other multiplayer games via serial connection before that :p

Probably Quake 2 for me, but I probably played more Action Quake 2 than vanialla, that mod was epic :D

But then come to think of it X-Wing vs Tie Fighter was great on The Zone, cant remember if that was before or after Quake 2?

i think it was quake 3 ctf, i couldnt keep off it and wrecked up 170 quid internet bill as it was dial up..

I got a $560 phone bill once because of Wireplay Direct :o My usual bill was still around $400.

Mine was TFC, remember switching to 64k ISDN and looking at pings of 2-300 think WOW, awesome :)

Mine was delta force, I really got into online gaming with that, capture the flag, I spent many hours on that.

Phantasy Star Online was my first on the Dreamcast which was pretty fun then Dark Age of Camelot on pc which in my opinion(and many others) was best mmorpg ever made and just a shame it wasn't advertised much in Europe. If part 2 was made i would pay £100 for it in a heartbeat.
