What was the first online multiplayer game you played?

Counter-stirke source as I just got 1MB broadband. The sniper elitism and nade spam put me off. Next was BF2, this was fun except for the early days of dolphining (jump/dive), but later patches eliminated this problem. My first MMO was guild wars, I never understood the mmo in it as the adventuring was mostly solo with npc. I tried a 10-day trial of Warcraft and was addicted.

Grand Theft Auto dial up link with my mate.

That was epic fun!

And at the same time we used to play Duke Nukem 3D on the college network during our computer classes, 6 player MP was brilliant.

:D :D

Age of Empires II. I absolutely love that game.

I then went on to Age of Mythology and basically progressed from there.

First real online multiplayer I played, you could say, was WoW.

Then my friend made me buy the Orange Box and I progressed to TF2! Now I have given up WoW, and TF2 is still my main source of online gaming! Since 2007 ;)

Age of empires (1) as far as I can remember, this was when I got my first 56k dial up connection. I see AoE came out in 1997 and I don't think I started online gaming much later than that :O.

After that I moved onto AoE2 and the custom maps scene using some Microsoft Zone game client. A year or two later it was Counter Strike, then TFC and the list goes on!

Quake 3 and UT on a 56k modem.

Then moved on to Counter Strike. While still using a 56k modem. :(

I remember Counter Strike ran like a dog for me on 56k.. took about 15 minutes just to connect to a server, then when I finally got 512k ADSL I was so amazed at the speed difference!

Ah the memories from this thread.

I believe mine was Ghost Recon on 56k, along with the Island Thunder (I think) version too. Was amazing fun... a total new world of experience.

Mine was EVE 1 month after it first came out....and am still playing it now.

Have tried online shooters (BFBC, CoD) but have decided that I am proper carp at them and dont like dying repeatedly after playing for 23 secs, so am giving them a miss.

Have also done some online flying in FSX, which was good fun. Cant remember the name of what it was, but was an ATC circuit up for it, which really added some realism to the whole flight sim experience. May try and find it out again so that I can get some practice in and help out with my PPL lessons.

Team Fortress on Wireplay

remember my parents getting a £100 odd phone bill and trying to explain that one to them...

This happened to me as well - luckily I had just started my first job and paid off the whole bill using my first pay packet. Later, on getting my first apartment, the location was decided by distance from the local exchange. Ping 150 on 56k :D
