What was the first online multiplayer game you played?

I remember playing doom over the network but not online.

and whilst at uni a year later some text based space xploration game, where you had a limited amount of moves a day to find stuff and mine, then that was it for the day but there was other players playing it aswell.

no idea what it was lol.

Properly? Medal of Honor... but I'd played LANs of Doom/Blood (which was awesome)DN3D (which was extra-awesome), Quake, C&C etc beforehand.

Online MoH was awesome though. 2000/2001, I believe.

It was either Mission force: Cyberstorm or Diablo 1, can't remember which came first. Cyberstorm was amazing fun, turn based mech combat kind of thing where you outfitted your mechs beforehand.

Diablo 1 was fun while it was all new and people were still playing it for the first time.

Doom was a lot of fun but only played it in LAN. At school. Between 16:00 and 21:00 every day of the week for.. some months
