what was your first lesson like?

well my third lesson was yesterday, also out on the open road for the first time and into fourth. Stalled it once at a roundabout and he caught the clutch a couple of times when it would have stalled. I'm lifting off too soon as well, although it's definitely improved since I realised last week that while I was releasing the clutch my heel wasn't on the ground, and it's impossible to judge the position of your foot like that.
Accidentally changed into first instead of third once as well :D. It's all part of progress anyway

I had my second lesson last week and he told me to book my test which i have done! taking it in 5 weeks time :)

I did have lots of lessons befor i went travelling for a year, failed my test and didnt have time to take another as had allready booked plane tickets, doh!! ;)

When i approached a roundabout on my last lesson, the instructor said ok put it into secound,Straight away i was thinking i am in 4th now can i just put it straight into 2nd,by that time it was too late,i panicked and put it into third lol.The instructor said why did you put into 3rd.I said well i didnt think you can just go from 4th to 2nd,he said well you was slowing down to approaching the roundabout so it was fine.

Got another lesson 2mor,feel so anxious and nervous, this is my 5th 1 and half hour lesson. My last lesson didn't go too bad, just put in wrong gear a few times and messed up abit turning into my estate.I just wish i could get rid of this nervous feeling i have before my lesson, did anyone else feel anxious and nervous before there lessons?

This is a bit late but got a bit of a tip for you. Wear thin shoes when learning to drive, buy a pair of £10 plimsolls similar to these when learning to drive, makes it much easier to guage where you're feet are on the pedals and makes clutch control etc far easier :)

just got back from my lesson, went pretty good,no stalls and felt like a drove miles and miles,i think we must have drove at least 40 miles. The main thing i was looking at was pedestrian crossings which i didn't really seem to have a problem with.I just need to watch my speed and also check my mirrors when signaling and moving off a roundabout sum times i just check the interior.

imo.. you shouldn't waste money learning to actually drive with your instructor (ie car basics)

do this with a friend, on an airstrip or somewhere suitable, just driving around at 20-30mph until you get comfortable

spend a few hours doing this, practicing reversing etc

then get lessons, they'll tell you what you're doing wrong, and then you'll just have to learn signs/roundabouts/etc

you learn quicker in a more relaxed environment

Had my first lesson just after my 17th birthday and could already drive. Met the instructor at his car and he asked me if I'd driven before. I said yes and he said ok lets see what you can do. Suffice to say 5 mins later I was driving along the A303 from Andover to Winchester. In total I had 8 lessons and he put me in for my test which I passed first time. Good job too really because I didn't like him.

some of us don't have friends.

or access to an airstrip.

5th lesson in 20 mins :)

edit: oh yes I also just passed my theory test. 50/50 on theory and 61/75 on Hazard Perception

i havent done my theory yet, because i have lost the paper that came with my provisional,so need to get that replaced befor trying for theory

Had my first lesson last week (im 29 never driven before) was just an hour, went through the cockpit drill, safety etc, drove around a residential estate for about 30 minutes, got into 2nd gear, lots of stopping/starting.

2nd lesson (2 hours) was wednesday just gone, where i moved onto indicating left/right, more gears, clutch control, hill starts, with the final hour of me driving from my home town to a small town about 3 miles away, lots of country roads, nsl roads, got into 4th, had lots of junctions and road abouts to go through also. Went brilliantly apart from stalling at the last set of traffic lights near my house :(

Got another 2 hour lesson tomorrow so should be fun! Never got nervous though, even my first lesson i was fine, felt pretty confident that i could do a good job anyway and i did.

well just finished 5th lesson and it feels like it's getting a lot more autonomous now. Getting better at expecting to change down as before today he kept saying "into second" when going round a corner / roundabout and I wouldn't even be able to find the gear stick.

Still managed to stall once though when pulling away at a roundabout, and my instructor started talking at length about pc world so I completely missed a huge gap in traffic at a roundabout...

To this day, 10yrs or so after the fact i still have a 'driving shoe' for my work commute, nice soft Reebok or whatever trainer i feel ok in.

I unoffically learned how to drive in a Ford Transit which was left in my keep for 3 months by sneaking it out when parents weren't in or late in the night when asleep. This is around 15-16 :D I worked part time as a sparky for my uncles company and the van was not needed for that period so they left it by my parents place.

Aha, I did this with my mothers Merc C180. She wasn't pleased when she found out.:p

I drove a Corsa round spalding with a bird who looked like one of those hot librarians you see in music videos who for some reason end up unbuttoning their shirts and orming all over the place.

She didnt undo her top, or orm anywhere, I blamed the Corsa as it was obviously wasnt me having negative effects on her.

My first lesson was great, i was buzzing for hours after. He drove me to an industrial estate and told me the basics etc on the way. When we got there we swapped seats and i had to pull away and pull in then turn round. Many stalls later i got the hang of it and he said "right I'm happy with what you can do lest get on the roads".

Was a really good feeling being in control of a car and really strange at the same time. My first lesson was in the dark as well which made it even more strange.

Then got to drive home along a long 50mph road. That was scary going 50mph for the first time.

I stalled at the first junction, but was fine afterwards! Went around some quiet Sheffield streets, I don't think the locals were too happy :p
