What was your first Smartphone?

HTC Desire was the first proper 'smart' phone I had - prior to that, it was waves of ever changing mobiles with various new features (clamshells with swivel cameras, an extra mini screen etc etc) - none of which ever struck me as being anything more than a prettier mobile than the one before - so weather I had an earlier smartphone and it went under my radar...?

I had the very first Android phone that was released, the Google G1. In the UK it was also known as the HTC Dream as they made it for Google.

Also it didn't have a headphone slot even all the way back then, it came with a set of mini usb slot headphones that annoyed users, most Android phones returned to using headphone slots for many phones subsequently till Apple "invented" not having them as standard a decade later.

Still have it in a drawer and with the quaint slide out keyboard seems they're fairly valuable to collectors for such an old and redundant phone.

That’s a re-badged Motorola E1000.

Do the buttons on either side of the screen still work? I remember them being horribly unreliable when I had one as carry/test device at 3 UK.
Worked fine last time I powered it up in 2015 - battery tried to pop since and been unable to get a replacement so just a beautiful ornament now

Just had a look at the e1000, and it isn't the same phone. The SX1 came out in 2003, the E1000 in 2004

I had a succession of high end Sony Ericsson camera phones but the first proper smart-device I can remember was probably the MDA Vario which was a HTC Windows Mobile device with a keyboard - but it was incredible at the time with a decent web browser (Opera Mobile), MSN Messenger and cut down versions of Office! It was great for Uni!

After that I had an iPhone 3G but I've been very much an Android User since then (except for 1x iPhone 8 Plus when I gave them a go again, mainly as I've always loved the iPad Pro)
