What was your first Smartphone?

My first touch screen phone I had was a HTC Hero. I had numerous Nokia N series phones which I guess could be classed as a smart phones? But always think of touch screen when the term smart phone is used

Fun fact: Nokia are the ones who coined the term smartphone, to describe phones that sat between their communicators (big PDA phones with keyboards) and feature phones.

So, yeah, the Nokia N-series phones were definitely smartphones even if they were primitive by today’s standards.

My first touchscreen smartphone was the O2 XDA II. To be able to use satnav I had to run a magentic gps aerial stuck to roof of my car. Thing would never connect to satellites! Take it all for granted now.

Used to run emulators on mine, nothing really changes 20 years later!

I think it was a Nexus 4. I was stupidly resistant to smartphones first, and was adamant that I hated the idea of typing on a non-tactile keyboard/keypad. Live and learn.

I had the very first Android phone that was released, the Google G1. In the UK it was also known as the HTC Dream as they made it for Google.

Also it didn't have a headphone slot even all the way back then, it came with a set of mini usb slot headphones that annoyed users, most Android phones returned to using headphone slots for many phones subsequently till Apple "invented" not having them as standard a decade later.

Still have it in a drawer and with the quaint slide out keyboard seems they're fairly valuable to collectors for such an old and redundant phone.

I still have my G1 somewhere.

I just sold an old minidisc player for £250.

There's collectors for everything.

Ooh I remember it well.

IPhone 1.

I got it imported from USA before it was available in the UK.
I spent hours and hours trying to jail break it (back then it was an absolute dog, plugging cables in, loading software, messing with the boot loader etc, thought I'd bricked it more than once. I almost gave up on it!

But when it worked people (no exaggeration) would stop me to ask "is that the iPhone?".. "how did you get that?".. Or just "wow"

I've never owned another apple product but it was revolutionary.
I got it in August 2007 I think. As I was working during the summer holiday

iPhone 2g for me as well, never known it to be called iPhone 1 though.

Got it via o2 though. I got it all set up on iTunes, account with o2 then realised oh I can jailbreak this.

The album in the iPod app when you’d flip the phone on its side and scroll through the albums with their covers was amazing. Everyone was “wow” the camera and maps use to take forever to load on EDGE.

Absolutely mental to think about that now.

Motorola MPX200 with Windows Mobile. It had an optional camera that connected via the SD card slot and any wav file could replace system sounds, including ringtones and startup etc.

HTC something, can't remember the model, but pretty sure it was the first phone with a touch screen as well as keyboard.

I remember I paid £570 for it from Handtec, as after opening it and using it for about 2 minutes I decided to return it. I could tell the smart phone/touchscreen technology was not quite there yet, and better save my money for something better.
