What watch do you wear?

I hope you're right and there isn't anything to worry about! I'd definitely buy another Stowa in future if things remain true to what they have been doing these past years. I guess it's always that one concern when big changes are announced with any brand. Normally things go sideways from a consumer angle because of too much change in products or quality or customer service.

Thankfully it seems the whole Stowa team is remaining so the same people who make the watches and give support will still be there giving some reassurance at least.

Hmm I wouldn't muddle small brand with lack of quality or credibility because of pricing! Nomos are a recent brand in watch terms where as Stowa have been around since 1927. If anything you'd expect Nomos watches to be cheaper than Stowa all things considered. I've owned a Nomos before too and it cost £2800, then when I got a Tudor around the same price, I wasn't seeing where that Nomos price was being applied in terms of watch case finishing or attention to detail over the Pelagos.

It is relative I guess though. But to my eyes having had both, the Stowa attention to detail inside and out of the case is just higher than Nomos in the current models in Top grade options.
I never meant Stowa was bad quality or anything, although I'd argue Nomos are still slightly higher tier than Stowa but debatable if the same value is there between the two. You've also got brand awareness etc and the simple fact I can (in theory) walk into a shop and try/buy a Nomos, I can't do that with Stowa.

As to how long they've been around you can't just assume that because the brand has been around since 1927 it's the same company etc, take Fears, a British watch brand from '1846' which was revived by a distant relative in 2016 after it had been closed down for many years (1976 by the looks of it)... they hide this fact in a single line on the about page with the link to it hidden in the footer but on the rest of the site it implies it's been a continuous brand.

Could that change going forwards now? Maybe. Tempus group might go the Swatch route and opt to release new watches that are "safe" and appeal to the masses m[ore rather than a set loyal customer base like has been all this time.
Having quickly looked at Tempus group brands I'd say Stowa will likely be left to run as is, focusing on military and bauhaus type designs as the bread and butter but with some 'special editions' to test the water from time to time. One thing for sure is I don't expect them to start adding ice to their watches like Blaken (another tempus brand) does lol.

If Stowa were a bit more mainstream (to be worth exploiting) and they'd just been bought by some private equity company then I might be concerned.

Tempus look interesting, their other brands Lang & Heyne and Leinfelder are pretty obscure and without any "heritage" but much more expensive. They also own UWD who seem to manufacture movements for those brands but probably still makes sense for Stowa to use ETA.

Ah on the whole Stowa use Sellita movements now apart from a couple of models that have hand wind ETA specific movements so still carry those. Interesting is probably the best description for sure, the brands under that umbrella are interesting, if a little as you say, obscure. Can only be a good thing I guess if parts/movements etc are shared among them in future? Keep everything German as opposed to Swiss movements, Chinese Sapphire etc as they do currently.

It could be worse though... Tag have just released the Aquaracer Solargraph, a solar powered watch with a TH50-00 movement that was developed by La Joux-Perret. La Joux-Perret is owned by Citizen who makes eco-drive so we all know it's based on that and it's stats say 'consumer'.... but they can't go saying they're using a japanese ecodrive in a watch that costs $3000

True, although tag have been a bit of an oddball for a while now :p

The FXD Pelagos finally reviewed by Watchfinder, looks really nice, although how they let slip all that dust on the glass is a mystery.

It's because of those precious metals it uses. Harder than Titanium and scratch resistance etc by the looks of it.

Edit* In process of ordering an 18mm bronze buckle from Stowa, and an 18mm Charcoal canvas strap to go on the Stowa in combo with the new buckle. I think that will be a strap monster combo :D

To be honest the metal isn't that precious, DAT55G is just a specific 'formula' of consumer grade titanium alloy.

I'm not sure I'd pay over £500 for a g-shock and I can think of far nicer looking watches to spend £3000+ on

True, I mean if Boldr can sell a fully Titanium automatic watch under £500 then wtf Casio??

It's not about the material only, it's all the component parts of the case and bracelet that are highly finished even though you never see them. Special module too, but it's different in the components within, again nothing you'd ever notice in use.

It's machining and finishing for the sake of it really.

Value is personal. It's not value to me, but people do appear to be buying them, so it must be of value to them!

Yeah that is just borderline mental issues at play. I mean it's a watch Swatch has said will be available to all, so why people are a) camping outside shops at launch, and b) actually paying several times over rRRP because they could not get a launch one is a mystery :/

It's not even good quality as it turns out lol.

Much feedback on Casio Edifice, I'm very tempted to get the torro rosso.

I remember one model having like 8 motors for super accurate time keeping, no idea on what model.
