What watch do you wear?

Fully expect to get heat for this, but I ordered a Pagani Design watch a few weeks back and it's arrived today... it's their Pagani Design PD-1661 model, which is going for the Sub look.

The strap isn't going to win any awards but first impressions are very positive. Got a good weight to it, and Seiko NH35 movement with a Sapphire Crystal.

Got it for £80 delivered.

My SNXS79 finally arrived!

I'm going to replace the caseback with an older, slimmer version (non-display) and put it on a strap.

It's exactly what I wanted though, perfect for when I make trips into the office. I don't think it'll replace the Steeldive as my daily wear but I'm glad it's just as comfortable for when I make the switch.

I’d say it’s practically a clone, rather than going for the look! Seems like a lot for the money though.

I have no idea why people buy clones. I see they do a black bay chrono one:

But I'm not tempted personally. I'll either buy the actual Tudor or something else.

Each to their own though :)

They are clones. No idea why someone would want something to look exactly like something else, when it isn't.

I'll have you know they are homages, not clones :p

Honestly, if you'd have asked me about them three weeks ago, I'd have probably agreed with you. I just happened to watch a few YouTube videos with them and though, at the price, I can get something that looks similar and see if it suits me.

I get that I'm just not so much a purist, I bought this for £80, so that's not even 1% of the watch it's modelled after. Also it's a rather interesting experiment at the end of the day, like how is it possible to create a decent watch and still sell it at this price? It makes me question how much mark up there is with other brands, luxury or otherwise.

Now I'm not saying there's no difference between this and a Rolex, that would be insane, but it's a decent watch in its own right. And let's not forget, the luxury watchmakers aren't shy of copying other designs either, Rolex included.

At the end of the day, it's got a decent movement, looks good, and should last as long as I service it (massive irony in servicing costs far outreaching the cost of the product itself). The purchase was... just an interesting one.

But I get why people don't understand. I'm not even sure I do myself yet, but again, it's £80 :)

Oh damn, looked on the website again, fancy this next :D

No heat from me, I have the 1639 and enjoy it.

Homages/clones are for when you want the look and feel of a type of watch and won't/can't spend £20k+. I think it's pretty easy to understand. And it's ten times more watch than you'd get from any of the big brands for £80. On my Pagani, the bezel and chapter rings even line up- Take that, Seiko.

(P.S. I am also a Seiko fanboy, however I'm under no illusions about the comparitive value of their watches)

I guess as a bit of fun, it's cheap enough :) You can get a feel for what you like before coughing up for a real one :D

That's it, and the thing is about the Rolex homages, who is to say I would ever have the opportunity to own the real deal? I'm not sure I have it in my locker to deal with their AD games, let alone the money.

Lovely, I almost went for that one myself.

I'm struggling - I think - to understand how it can be made so well and feel so premium, for the price.

Seiko fan here too! :)

To add to the homage/clone discussion: it's a good way to see if you enjoy a particular watch over a long period of time without forking out for one; I now love the case shape of the Steeldive SD1970 which is based on the Captain Willard Seiko 6105, but to begin with I wasn't too sure if I'd enjoy it because it looks quite bulky. For £55 it was worth a go compared to £800+ that I'd have to pay for the Seiko.

I'm considering the SPB153J1 as a future purchase and it's because of the Steeldive that I'd be happy to spend that much.

Ordered a Hamilton Expedition, black dial, steel. Will likely get a different strap for flexibility. Good price circa £800.
I really like the Chris Ward Dune, but that can wait for summer.
Same lug width for strap swapping.

Just spotted a sale on the black bay chrono, but it's only the leather strap version :( £3700 really good price. But I'd guess the bracelet would cost best part of 1k to buy separately.

I could buy it and just put it on a nice silicone strap? I ideally wanted the bracelet though.

Present from the wife, I feel I'll be wearing this a bit. Bracelet needs resizing- I've got all the tools and perfectly capable, but given the price I'm tempted to go to the dealer, lean on the customer service a bit and ask them to do it. What does the hive mind reckon?

Very nice! I'd allways size it myself, but I'm incredibly impatient and want to wear a new watch straight away

Mega. If sizing yourself just make sure you buy the exact screwdriver for that strap. Don't tempt any other random drivers you've got knocking around.

My other half bought me a Moonswatch for Christmas, the Pluto version and I really like it! I already have Tag Carerra and Oris half skeleton automatics. The 'Bioceramic' is a strange material, it's obviously a plastic but maintains a hardness which give the edges a sharpness.

Love these!
