What watch do you wear?

My dad died on the weekend and has left me his watches (all in need of some attention) and they will be very much loved by me. There is a rose gold IWC portuguese, a stainless JLC reverso that I gave him for his 70th and an Omega Seamaster he got for his 21st, 60 years ago. They will be a nice memory of him. It was my son's 16th yesterday and I gave him the Tag diver my dad gave me for my 20th birthday (30 years ago!)

Sincere condolences dude, I hope the watches continue to bring back happy memories! :)

I am sorry to hear that, but those watches are a going to present a fine part of his legacy.
He clearly had great taste :)

I also did a little bit of experimentation with some SKMEI watches...

These seem to take well to the coloured filters! The dual colour came out nicer than expected.

My 2015 vintage Citizen Eco-Drive “daily driver” was found devoid of life this morning as I haven’t worn it in a couple of weeks due injuring my hand.

Am trying the “leave it in direct sunlight for a day or two” advice from Citizen in case the batteries are dead flat.

If that doesn’t work, I’ll have to dig out my old Seiko as I suspect any repair to my Eco-Drive will cost more than the watch did in the first place.

It should come back, but it must be really dead!

Usually they go to a "double tick" low power mode for quite some time before they totally keel over. Not had a single one die on me yet even after years of no-wear!

I think you also need to pull the crown out and leave it in intense light for multiple days? Depending on the model, it might be a capacitor or a battery, either of which you can source the replacement for and do it yourself, rather than relegating it to the drawer of discontent (or the bin).

Followers of my Freeman post may know my father is a nut job, i recently remembered a time that he bought a couple of new Daytonas around 2019 as a "store of wealth", about a month before it all went south he offered to sell me one (yes he's that man) for the price he paid for it. When he bought them he put them away and never wore them. I guess that was one of his better decisions.

I really regret not buying one of them now, about the only regret i had about that fiasco!
He'd always buy extravagant things then try and get me to buy them at going rate. What a top dad, lol.

I guess what i am trying to say is Skidder, i am really sorry for your loss make sure those memories live on through the generations... i wish i had a decent father.

If it wasn't for the fact it affects you, your father would be entertaining in a way watching a train wreck would be. (Lets assume no one is on the train...). What a guy.

Starting to think you may egg on your face with posts like that. A Daytona is pretty much impossible to get without a long history with an AD; so even at face value it is a bargain...It would have been an exceptional store of wealth in 2019 so no need for facetious quote marks, he was totally right.

They are difficult to buy now if not impossible from an AD, agreed, several years ago they were hard to purchase but not impossible as he was buying other tat and still waited about 6 months, i have no qualms in posting my mistakes, I regret and admit that he was right some 6/7 years later. But that was more luck than judgment! I recall the circumstances now, he got a steel one first, then was offered a gold one which he bought, he then tried to palm off the steel one. I had no idea about watches at that time or any interest, so no point of reference for value.

In a similar episode he offered to sell me his Macan Turbo at the going rate, in his head it was a deal as i knew the owner, not withstanding the fact i had no desire for the car or need for it. According to him I was stupid for not buying it.

The quote marks were there because he bought many things as a "store of wealth" (his words due to banksters being scammers etc), he bought a vast amount of gold and silver around 2011 when it was extremely high, that didn't work out for him until 10+ years later. He lost a lot more than the unrealised gain on two daytonas.

My life is a series of mistakes and embarrassments, not buying a daytona at MSRP isn't that high up on the list and also doesn't mean my father isn't mental LOL.

I have a Citizen Eco drive that had sat around for ages -dead as a door mouse.
Put it on window sill for a week or so and it's working fine and keeping time. I also put my Seiko Solar next to it and it to is working fine -

Drag yourself out of this downer mentality of criticizing yourself to a forum of random strangers, it's not healthy or productive.
