What watch do you wear?

Dowie they are all junk. Longines died decades ago. Hamilton is junk as well. Best off saving £400 there.

Nomos isn't for me as there is no history of craftsmanship. At there price new you are better off going used

It is good advice, Whqat does a £500 watch get you over a sub hundred pound one?
I have a few quartz watches from £100 to £400. As the cost gets higher so the quality of materials improves - thicker straps, higher quality finish, heavier feel, improved clasps etc..

All I am trying to say is I personally think £500 is a waste as it simply isn't enough to egt anything above a watch at say £100.

Save your money or listen to all the guys that have spent a shed load of money on crap. They probably have 3-4 £500 circa watches as a collection, yet all they have is garbage. The thinking mans choice would be one decent watch at 2-3k used.

If you have absolutely no desire to ever spend that on a watch then buy a nice watch at £100 ish and live your life. :)

Hi Guys

Today I was browsing for watches in the usual high st retailers and loved the look of the Omega Deville. The watch was around £2300. The guy said there's room for discount but he didn't say. What can you get off a watch typically? 10%?

^ That's your view.

I have 4 sub £500 quartz watches, comparing these two:
- Seiko Sportura £320
- Citizen Red Arrows £160

The difference side by-side is massive. The Citizen watch feels very cheap. Spending a couple of hundred more does get you a better watch.

Oh, I also have an Omega SMP, so that goes against the thinking of your above post :)

What a ridiculous viewpoint. That's like saying if you can't afford an Aston Martin, don't get a BMW or Mercedes instead, just get a Dacia or you're wasting your time.

There are plenty of quality watches at those price points without having to spend thousands. One may even argue the 'thinking man's choice' is merely paying for the brand and little else in some cases.

You should be able / aim for 20% off RRP. If you're getting it on Finance though your discount options reduce.

Fair comment. Will mull it over; it's just I have a tad of wedding money left over and wanted to treat myself to something I could keep for years to come. I cant see myself sinking £2k into watch until my later years in life; and certainly won't be for the next 10 years.

We have very different views on quality it seems.

I'm merely acknowledging that different levels of quality exist, as people have pointed out to you.

Yes, but you have seemed to missed my point. I am saying that there is minimal difference in quality, you are getting ripped off instead just to say I gotta £500 watch down the pub.

Phil, please don't listen to these guys. Ultimately it's up to you, it will be ok for bragging rights down the pub but should you ever meet proper watch people they will die inside. As they will know you were bent over and robbed.
