What watch do you wear?

What do you mean?

I believe thats the same watch, it looks like it rotates slowly or something. Is that right?

A tourbillon is a complication used to counteract the effects of gravity on the movement, it is very complex and generlaly only seen on watches costing £10k+ so there is no way that is a tourbillon, as such any watch maker that brands it's watches as something they are not is best avoided IMO

Thats a nice old Omega.

Yes it is but sadly when it arrived the date adjust didn't work, the crown unscrewed completely and the glass had been glued in to place. With it being a front loading movement, the glued in glass would have had to been replaced before the movement could be inspected to fix. The second hand had also tarnished suggesting water damage- none of the above were declared on the listing so it went back for a refund :(

I am keeping an eye out for another one as I love the vintage Omegas- have a gold Seamaster and a steel Megaquartz.

Love your White Gold Sub by the way, had a play with one of those in Vegas last year- only sub that I like but a bit out of my pocket money at the mo :)

I thought that the Chinkies did bash out cheap tourbillons nowadays?

What about an old Omega DeVille, some of those are nice, to replace the disaster?

I've got/had an old '60s front loading (is it called something like monocoque) Seamaster along with an F300hz Geneve - left them behind when I moved house a while back by accident and really need to get around to getting them back from the estate agent.

Currently wear an Aquastar 1701 Geneve.

I think that I read this thread a few years ago which is what lead me to think that you can get (relatively) cheap tourbillons:
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t=521212

therein you can find this:

and this:

I have read some mixed reports on that BHI branded tourbillon (you can get the exact same one unbranded) but it is a genuine complication rather than some open heart monstrosity like much of the ebay dross. May be an issue getting it serviced or repaired in the future, since your typical watchmaker wouldn't have experience of them. There are discussions of it on tz-uk

I really want a new watch and wanna buy one today!

So the general consensus is that this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/053-PARNIS-43...nsWatches_GL&hash=item3a64aac131#ht_831wt_905

Is not a good idea as the tourbillon is cheap? Shame because I really like the look of the watch. I could get this version http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a302/danza1/Parnis.jpg linked previously which doesn't have the tourbillon, but are Parnis a respected make? Not going to turn my wrist green or break is it?

Also what is a good watch e-tailer?

Thanks in advance guys

That's an open heart, not a tourbillon. If you like it, for £59 why not buy it.

Parnis are a funny one they use some ok chinese movements and make some watches that are stylistically rip offs of major manufacturers but have the parnis brand on them so are not actually fakes.

The second you link to looks a lot like a portuguese chrono (but it isn't actually a chrono). A lot of watch geeks have a parnis or two knocking around to try a style they don't want to commit lots of money to. They are a bit hit and miss but for that money, why not.

Hmm I suppose, not sure I'm keen on getting it from hong kong though! The seller seems trustworthy however. Gonna have a look around me thinks.
