What watch do you wear?

Hey don't be blaming it on me if it's not to your liking! I like it though :p

The Barton Silicone Elite strap still has not arrived yet for the Spinnaker. Tracking shows it left Illinois yesterday via USPS so I imagine it will take an ice age given the US situation at the moment. Ho hum!

I want to buy another watch soon as well but cannot decide between the Marloe Coniston or the MAEN Hudson posted above. I really like the Hudson and would nicely accompany the other watches I reckon, it's also really good value given the movement and customisation.

Yeah I think we can have Seiko to thank for that really. They kind of neglected the lower price bracket market at some point and the lesser known brand names are starting to take this area over which is great for competition and design innovation. The materials and finishings used are often really high quality at affordable prices.

It also helps that Miyota, STP (with various grades since they're ETA base movements anyway) and even Seiko's NH series movements are used by the above with their own regulations and decorations to make the go beyond the manufacturer spec sheets.

In market atm for a new watch - and potentially (unless I combine the two) a second one.. Any of you have much knowledge on the older Omega's?

Been looking at this watch (1967 Omega Seamaster Cosmic):
JaYHbXB.jpg

Doesn't necessarily have to be a 'vintage' watch, but really liked the black face and strap on this one.

Currently got a couple of Seiko 5's, Seiko Chrono (do love a good Seiko!) and a Raymond Weil but looking at getting my first 'proper' watch as a more daily wear. As well as that also looking at (again, could combine the two) a watch from 1959 - always said I'd get my late Father an Omega/Rolex for his 60th but didn't get the chance so I've been looking over the past year or so and putting money aside should I come across one. Looking at both Rolex/Omega, the Omega's (my personal preference anyway) seem to be a lot more affordable, especially dated '59. Are there any specific models I should rule out completely? Would ideally be something I'd keep hold off and pass on later in life.

Daily watch is fairly open for consideration tbh, always wanted a Seamaster but not limiting myself to that should I see another one, but have seen a few decent Seamaster's within the budget.

What should I be looking at for £1-1.5k if I were to get a more 'vintage' watch? Budget for both watches would ideally total £2-2.5k, but obviously anything below that is always better. Watch pictured above is listed at £899 currently.

Old Omegas are a bit of a minefield, I've been trying to find a good '63 seamaster for a while now.

There are some decent links here giving you a few pointers

Be careful :)

Thanks for that :) been mostly looking at Chrono24 and sticking to the more 'reputable' sellers, so hopefully shouldn't have too much an issue.

I've also just been looking at a few nice watches (regardless of year) within my budget - definitely broadens the options!

Closeups from this angle always make watches (and peoples heads) look massive :D That is classy though. I would like a dress watch but I'm always wearing casual most days so would not suit really. This is where for me the Morar is in its element, fits in so well with any clothing and doesn't look out of place.

Seiko Sarb033 on steel fits that bracket, works for smart and casual.

Have you seen the new Seiko 5s announced? Seiko are pulling a Samsung now and just releasing every design room idea they had. Same mineral crystals too. They need to switch it up a notch IMO in this price segment but maybe it's a good thing because it's allowing micro brands as mentioned above to thrive.

Spinnaker arrived today, super fast to say I ordered it on Wednesday afternoon. I have to say I am impressed with the quality of all of it, for that money it's a steal.

Good to hear!

This was fascinating to watch, and the tools he used are off eBay. Makes me want to get a Seiko 5 at some point and just buy the mod parts from DLW etc and make it a weekend afternoon project!

I also watched this video on adjustment vs regulation and how to measure using a basic timegrapher.

Found it very informative and I learned a few things today. Made me also appreciate the STP1-11 used in the Maen Hudson 38 posted earlier which is adjusted and regulated in all 5 positions. For a watch that's under £450 with a signed and decorated Swiss movement. I think that's quite remarkable. Can't wait to get mine!

Glycine Combat Sub just received this morning. Very happy with it :). Quality feels so much better than my other watches. Though to be fair none of them are very high end :). Even the strap just feels (and smells) so nice. I'll probably take it off the rubber strap and put a nato or zulu on it anyway.

Can't see it in this picture of course but it's so thin, and sits really nicely on the wrist.

Glycine next to my other watches:

I have them in order of purchase :).

Next on my list is the Hamilton Khaki Navy Scuba.

Nothing is wrong with hardlex, I've never managed to scratch a crystal and mineral glass is more shatter resistant. The 'new' 5 is just an update of the old bezel-less models they've had on their catalogue for years.

I've only put a watch on once or may be twice during lockdown. I'm thinking of selling a few and may be switching them out for one.

Funnily enough I have been in exactly the same situation as you. I was even considering selling my Planet Ocean and getting a much cheaper watch to wear as needed. I've never felt that way before and it is weird I have to say.
I normally love wearing my watches but over the past few months I have not reallly been wearing many at all.

I'm not saying this is the case for you, but for many people, watches are something to be worn to show something to others. What with no longer going out to work and socialise, they're losing their importance.

I'm finding I'm wearing more watches now than before lockdown as I can switch out multiple times a day given they're staring at me above my computer!

My real issue \I suppose is that I no longer needd to know the time all the time...

I would imagine that on holiday when timing is important (Disneyland timetables!) etc, then I would want my watch. But, siutting at home with the children it doesn't seem needed.

Yeah it's funny. I think it flags to me that wearing a watch (for me) is like jewellery, or dare I say it accesorising.
