Exactly, your nose will tell you if it's off. If you're really feeling cautious, shred it and put in a soup or stew so it gets recooked.
Chicken can smell fine but trust me, once you cook it for about 20-30min if its off, it smells real bad.
It happened to me the other day, had some chicken breast in the fridge that had been open about 3 days and needed cooking.
After 25min the smell had me ralphing all over the place the smell was bloody awful.
Bacon the same, it can smell ok but 5-10 min cooking and it smells rank as hell.
Not sure on meat? Cook for 5 to 30min if it smells bad it is bad.

It's already cooked so not the same as leaving raw chicken out. I'd just blast it in microwave for 10 minutes then add it into something like a soup, pasta or a stew or whatever and cook some more.

So smell test still works.
Although i would say this sounds like you're cooking it af a bizzarely low temperature alowing stuff to breed
I suggest begging as an emergency measure for anyone who is so close to starving that the price of a small amount of cheap chicken is worth risking food poisoning for.
Or, of course, saving it for when the correct course of action is to poo through a letterbox but they just don't need a poo at that time. In such circumstances, dodgy chicken could be a substitute.
