What would you do if you found a thief in your house?

I do know a guy who when confronted by a mugger, pretended to cower and beg, then proceeded to kick the mugger in the gonads and basically destroyed him....

When I thought about this, this is probably a good tatic, give the person a false sense of power and they'll possibly lower their guard enough for you to go to town on them. :) But, in all honesty, I don't really know what I'd do.

laws in this country are ****ed. If i see a thief in my house I would beat the **** out of him or her, immobilise the thief and call the police. But in America I think you have the right to shoot the thief.

Read through the first couple of pages and looking for a bit of confirmation.

If I did happen to catch an intruder on my property:
-Am I legally allowed to threaten them with a weapon to get out (or wait for the police)?
-Am I legally allowed to incapacitate the intruder regardless of whether they were threatening me or had a weapon, rather than let them get away in order for the police to arrest them?

I have the wife and kids to protect so I would have an agressive \ defensive stature, I'm not about to tackle someone if I can help it but at the end of the day my wife and kids need protecting so I would do what any father would do.
 
You're not really allowed to do anything to defend your home/possessions in this country, the criminal is always made out to be the helpless victim.
Sure there may be some sort of pretend reasonable force arguement, but I think the justice system in this country sees reasonable force as "the victim urinating his pants, crying and hoping for the criminal to leave in comedy disgust".

If I was in this situation, I don't know what I'd do. Don't have golf clubs or similar things... Guess I'd just keep hold of the gerber knife until they'd left, I wouldn't go down and confront them.
I do have a spare MX3200 keyboard but I'm not overly convinced I'd do this weapon justice, not got any mad fighting skills.

The former could be assault. The latter could be false imprisonment.

Thought it would really depend on exactly what you did.

Indeed. Everyone talks about it as though there is no conceivable way that someone who has made a conscious decision to break into someone else's house could possibly be harder than them or more willing to use violence.
 
I'd be split between shooting them or battering them, but they would get one or the other, my house, my rules!

An englishman and his castle, nothing better IMO!
 
It's a shame that people who break into houses to steal can't just be killed.
They have proven that they are now of no worth to society at all. There are far too many people like this for us to be handing out "second chances".

All people like this do is cost the country money. If we could throw out their human rights and just drown them. The UK would be a better place.

Edit: Whilst my post is obviously over the top. I do actually believe that scum who break into houses to steal what others have worked hard for, have no place on this planet. I'm pretty sure we could be harvesting their organs for the NHS.
