What would you do in this situation

Well I must say I've never been in that situation, so I guess I'm lucky. Yay to pretentious cooking places! :D

I am aware of situations where the food wasn't to expectations and somehow it seems to be acceptable to refuse to pay at a restaurant more so than in a taxi... never really thought about it. Good point though AH. I'd argue that there are technical differences... but it is a good point. :)

There is a disconnect between the fact that he took a call and your decision not to pay the full price. You could have insisted he pull over, or let you out of the cab.

Indeed, yet despite the OPs dissatisfaction with the service he carried on. He was evidently forthright enough to show objection to it, but not enough to want to pull over? How odd!

cab drivers are probably good at talking on mobiles while driving after all they are used to talking on the cb radio thing while driving anyway

yeh post the picture :D

One time myself and mates got a cab back from in town and half way through the journey home we noticed the cab driver kept on reaching below his seat pulling something out of bag and putting it in his mouth. We also noticed we were going round in circles, lol. Turned out the cabby was completely off his boobs on Khat (amphetamine like drug from Somalia) We were pretty blind drunk so we laughed it off but looking back at it now its a bit scarey.

As for someone using a phone, i really wouldn't say anything.

I had to get him to drop me off at my house because I needed to get the extra money for the fare. I wasnt supposed to be working that late so I didnt take enough money with me to get a taxi.

I have phoned the council and reported him with his driver number and his licence plate. They are telling me that they are looking into it and because of the fact that they have a camera if they look over the footage and see him on his phone while moving he could lose his licence and face a fine.
That`s fair enough to me if your going to break the law and you get caught you should face the consequences.
From what I was told if he agreed to accept the reduced fare (which he did) then there is nothing he can do to me about it.

As I have said before I hate people who use there mobile phones, eat, smoke ect while driving. I don't have a licence yet but I am learning and I can see how difficult it is to concentrate while my instructor is trying to talk to me let alone me taking one of my hands off the wheel to mess about doing something else other than changing gear

You really need to get out more m8.

Edit: Also you think if he looses his licence and receives a fine he is going to let it drop ?

1st off i agree that people shouldn't use their phones when driving. But consider that this guy will loose his job if he looses his license. Consider that he will have probably been driving for years and you are comparing it to yourself, who hasn't even passed your test yet. People say you dont start to learn to drive until you have passed your test, there is some truth in this.

I understand your point that he is putting you at risk while you are in the cab, but really you should have just asked him to stop and got out if you were that worried about it. Now you could have an angry cab driver without a job who knows where you live. To be honest you really didn't think this through.

I think the OP personifies the new breed of busy body people this country has bred over the last 12 years. You really need to grow the hell up.

You've complained, he faces investigation = SACK.

You think he is going to let it go that a jumped up self-righteous busy body made him lose his job? Good luck fella.

I'd hate to be you.

I don't have a licence yet

Don't you have anything else better to do. The second he picked up his phone did he start driving on the wrong side of the road and start playing chicken with other road users?

Was he just staring out the window and not looking forward at all?

Ignoring the fact he used his phone, did he or did he not get you home completely unscathed in a timely manner as he would have done if he hadn't of used his phone?

If your answers are 'No, No, Yes he did' then you need to get over it.

People break laws all the time as a matter of fact I drove at 31mph in a 30 yesterday ZOMG RING DA POLICE!?!?!?!?!!!ONE - Did I harm anyone in doing so? nope...

So if you cause him to lose his license, are you going to feel nice and smug about it 'excellent another law breaker off the roads'.....bet you won't think that if he comes knocking at your door because you ruined his life because you have nothing else better to do.

Ok so I have just got a taxi home from work.
At one point the taxi driver answered his mobile without a hands free kit and I told him to hang up but he ignored me.
I told him I was going to take a picture of him using a mobile phone which he actually posed for.

We then got to my house and I told him I wasn't going to pay the full fare because of the fact he broke the law. He said he knows where I live and is going to report me to the police because it is a criminal offence to not pay the taxi fare.

Surely though if he is using his mobile phone while driving he is putting me in danger.

where would I stand if he does report me to the police???

lol this has got to be a windup?

ur an idiot.

enjoy ur smashed windows.

I'd move if I were you :(
Really not a good move on your part if he does get sacked. Not saying you were wrong but it's the world we live in today and you will be the one taking the responsibility for the sacking, not him.

i wonder if your response would have been different if the op said he did drive?
