hi,

i have only just heard about these drive bays that can clone an hard drive to another with ease but there are so many and a lot of them seam cheap with bad reviews and i was wondering if anyone can tell me what brands of them are good to buy please.

Also can they copy and hard drive with operating system intack? obviously you would have to change all the drivers if put into another machine but can they clone the op?

huge thanks for any help

What sort of usage do you have in mind?
As if it's only for backup purposes just connecting a second drive in your pc case and using free software to clone would be my suggestion
I do that so if can't boot the pc I just switch to the cloned drive until got time to sort main drive out

we have 5 pcs in our house and i think it would be a good thing to have around in case i ever need to transfer a small hard drive to a new larger one without having to format anything etc. though none of them seam to have ide socket but i guess a convertor might work but most are satas

i have one in the cupboard some where does 1 ide connection 1 sata clone or just copy data its usb 3.0
but havent used ide drive in ages so its probably at the bottom of the pile in the cupboard lol
but with it you cant clone sata to sata so depends how often you would use ide drives
look on ocuk no idea what they have currently but think mine was called all in one docking device or similar by innostor

i am on 15 posts a day limit so if dont answer any more not ignoring you by the way

edited --pretty sure i can just pop a drive in my normal sata dock and clone with macrium etc though
and that ways faster than these cloning docks
think they may do a sector by sector clone which is way slower

and i can reply by editing though if hit 15 post limit

and yes should clone the operating system
and now adays its sometimes possible to put it in another pc any way regardless of drivers
i just did it to test my new amd build using an intel os clone
less likely to just blue screen you now adays doing that

just about on my limit but edited previous reply just in case---the limit doesnt stop me editing lol
its just to stop new members bot spamming the forums but lasts 30 days frustratingly

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £111.08 (includes shipping: £11.10)

found these 2 on OC which look very sim to each other
seem pretty similar specs far as i can see though must admit silver looks more appealing style wise to me

edit hit reply just as you said dont need to reply lol

edit will leave you to it now before that dreaded 15 post limit message pops up

always happy to help if i can

still trying to work out which is the newer model but i think the black one is the newer one but they are so sim

Hi again
My 15 post limit is gone thanks to helpful moderators
So don't need to edit replies any more
YAY
Don't think I saw anything to say one was newer than other
Guess only a bit of googling will get you that info though how easy to find the info not sure
Perhaps look for reviews of them that should be roughly when they first appeared usually

I've got this one and cloned quite a few drives with it - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/icyb...tion-for-2.5-and-3.5-sata-hdds-hd-115-bt.html
It's also good for reading drives.

You happen to know how fast it clones?
As had a feeling these push button to clone docks may be way slower than using the Dock but using software to clone
As think the docks do full sector cloning to err on safe side
But software like macrium doesn't have to unless you actually tick that option~I never do

No problem
Was just me being curious

Main thing is you get a successful clone

It clones exactly so for instance I had a 64gb SSD and cloned to a 256gb but it created a 64gb C: drive and the rest became E:drive.

I then cloned that drive some time later and it just made an exact copy.
It would be nice if I could tell it to put all of it on one drive, perhaps it can but I didn't read the instructions :)
