Whats best to remove old Thermal Paste

I've found it more and more difficult to get hold of isopropyl alcohol, more and more chemists are not willing to sell it any more :( Alaska Tim Clean does smell nice though :)

I used an old clubcard and a kitchen towel that's almost definitely not the best method though.

+1

I would go for this:

hey guys, a bit off topic here. I'm about to reapply TIM on my cpu. Should i remove the actual cpu from the socket or will i be able to clean it up from the socket? I'm just scared that i might mess up getting the cpu back out/in. Thanks!!!

im gonna be using the akasa tim cleaner thing so wish me luck :D

I would remove the chip and apply, just be careful when removing and reinserting the cpu and you should be fine.

A cotton bud soaked lightly in Swan Lighter Fluid works really well on Noctua paste and Arctic Silver 5. Totally dissolves it and leaves no residues.

Baby Wipes? Usually used for cleaning up an unholy mess made by someone who knows not very much and cares even less?

Maybe if it's all you have to hand in an emergency but personally there's no way I'd go anywhere near my CPU or cooler base with an indiscriminate Wipe thing full of baby ass soothing lotion and god knows what else.

Yeuch
