Whats normal temp for GPU?

My GPU is : http://www.amazon.co.uk/VTX3D-Radeon-7870-Tahiti-Graphics/dp/B00AM3A7JY

My temps when gaming are

BF3 - 82C

Metro 2033 - 86C and increasing by 1C every 15 seconds,turned it off at 86C

Day Z - 65-70C

Alan Wake - 86C

Bioshock Infinite Usual - 86

Grand Theft Auto 4 Usual - 81C

Should i be worried? What can i do to reduce temps? I posted this a while back but got no real help

There is no "normal" temperatures really. Those do seem a little on the high side though.
You could make sure that you have decent air flow to the card to begin with and maybe change the thermal compound on the core of the card.
You could also setup a custom fan profile using a program such as MSI Afterburner.

Just tested Kane & Lynch 2 1st mission and temp reached 86C by end of mission

that's not right IMO.

could try re-applying thermal paste to GPU.

how long u had the card?

Since the 12th July 2013 and apply thermal paste? Did i have to do that? I just took it out of box and plugged it in

No the manufacturer will have applied paste and/ or thermal pads between the heat producing parts of the card and the cooler. By removing the cooler to re-apply, you would in all likliehood void your warranty - so be careful in that respect.

I haven't used a 78 series, but my previous card before my 7970's were 5870's with stock coolers and those would get hot (even with just 1 of them installed). You probably want to try and create a more aggresive custom fan profile with a piece of software like afterburner or trixx to keep temps a little cooler if it is concerning you.

The card will work fine at that temp. In fact I am sure the card will throttle itself it it senses it is getting too hot.

Would be lovely to know what your room temp is...

Increase in ambient is an increase in overall temps, your fan profile is another thing to quote when asking about temps.

are you using AMD PowerTune?

also confirm in catalyst your card is running at:

Processor Frequency : 925 MHz
Memory Frequency : 4800 MHz

I tried custom fan using MSI afterburner and card was 96C when gaming and @ Billysielu,where do i find that?

set the fan to 80%, try it and see the temp... if it's ok..
you need to make a fan profile to keep your temperatures lower.

and don't use amd overdrive when you are using afterburner

I am playing Civilization V at the moment,card is at 78C and increasing by 1 every 3-4 minutes

Looks overclocked. I daren't advise you on how to fix it because I've never used afterburner... but maybe someone else can.

Create a fan profile where the fan runs at 40% at 40degs, 50% at 50degs etc in a linear line up to say 75degrees where you could run fan at say 85%, with it gradually incresing as the temps approach 80 and have it set to 100% at 85degs.

It will defo be louder than it currently is, but it should keep the gpu quite a bit cooler than the stock fan setting.

What sort of temps are you hoping for? What you could do is tick enable manual fan control, set it 100% and stress the card with 1 of the games that were giving you high temps. This will guve you an idea of the maximum cooling potential of the stock cooler.

Then once you have seen that, create a fan profile that will give a trade off between heat and noise. I certainly wouldn't want 1 of those blower fans spinning at 100% constantly, but you should be able to keep the card in the 70's under load i would imagine with a more aggrsive fan profile. As i say though, try it at 100% to see the maximum cooling capability you've got and then have a play around with fan profiles.
