What's the last album you listened to?

Album: Gallows - Orchestra Of Wolves. (I'm listening to this as I write this).
Release: 2006.
Genre: Hardcore Punk.
Stand out track: They're all stand out. It's a punch in the face and kick in the balls from start to finish. But my favourite track is "Will someone shoot that ****ing snake". It was my mum who introduced me to punk and hardcore punk as I used to listen to all her old vinyls from the 70s and 80s when I was a kid. But for years I'd been getting my fix firmly from American hardcore bands and occasionally British bands (like Million Dead). Million Dead split and the following year Orchestra of Wolves landed. I was young, angry and OoW laid out exactly how I felt. And still feel at times. Which is why I can listen to it again and again. It doesn't matter how I'm feeling, but when I put on OoW, within 10 seconds of "Kill The Rhythm" I'm ready to get in a pit and slam dance and keep going until the end of Orchestra Of Wolves.

OoW and the second album Grey Britain are two of the best hardcore punk albums in the world and definitely two of the best that have ever come out of England. Roll on number three.

Shame about Frank Carter leaving the band eh? ;)
Not sure the Alexisonfire guy will really carry it off as well.

Grey Britain has some good tracks on it like 'The Riverbed'. But Orchestra of Wolves hasn't aged too well for me. *shrug*

Would be nice to see a few more bands like The Gallows come out and about.

The sample track True Colours featuring Wade reminds me of The Exploited. And I love The Exploited, so I'm looking forward to see what album three sounds like.

I'm also looking forward to see what Frank is doing with Pure Love as the sample released from them sounds very very shoegazey.

Genesis - We Can't Dance (Rock/Progressive)

Absolutely fantastic album, though a lot of people would disagree due to Phil Collins being on vocals rather than Peter Gabriel. 8/10

Stand out tracks -

No Son Of Mine

&

Jesus He Knows Me

The lead singer of the Gaslight Anthem's side project. A really, really good album - much better than either of the Gaslight Anthem's ones. A few standout songs, including Behold the Hurricane, and the below:

Huge Gaslight fan but I struggled to get through this. Boring on the first listen. Hope it grows.

Two good records, but best hardcore punk albums in the world? Certainly not.

I will plug

Times of Grace - Hymn of a Broken Man
Released January 2011
My rating:- 8/10
Stand out track:- Live in Love

This is a stunning album, and an album in the proper sense of what an album should be.

Turisas - Stand Up and Fight - 9/10

Couple of tracks not as good as the others but otherwise its absolutely epic. March of the Varangian Guard, Hunting Pirates, Stand Up and Fight, Fear the Fear, End of an Empire are all brilliant. Love the epicness of the last 2.

Released: May 2003
My rating:- 7.5/10
Stand out tracks: Bloody Cape , Minerva

Deftones at their most layered and over-produced (apart from maybe Saturday Night Wrist).
A heavy, dense album as a whole, not my favourite of theirs, but this was the last album i listened to.

Note you're wrong. But don't worry about it.

Really? Their first album has 6 really good tunes, and 6 ok tunes. Grey Britain is so close to moving away from hardcore that, at times, it's not even a hardcore record.

Putting them up there with Black Flag, Minor Threat, Agnostic Front, Avail et al is flattering, but wrong.

They had an album of that quality in them, though. It remains to be seen if they still do.

Roy Harper - Folkjokeopus (1969)
Folk rock
8/10
mghoohans blues is probably the stand out track along with one for all

I listened to this yesterday as i had not listened to any Harper for quite a while. This guy used to try and teach Jimmy page some of his songs but page was not a good enough guitarist to get the hang of it (hence Led Zeppelin's song "Hats off to (Roy) Harper"). Roy also sang Pink Floyds have a cigar on the wish you were here album.

If you appreciate good guitarists then listen to it all

Not his best album in my opinion as i believe that is "Stormcock"

This is my favourite album of theirs. I'm generally alone in that thinking though!
'When Girls Telephone Boys' is an immense song, when the riff kicks in, it's just plain awesome :) Love a bit of 'Minerva' too of course :D

The Aristocrats.

InstruMental album with the legendary Guthrie Govan on Guitar, the majestic Brian Beller on bass and the stupendous Marco Minnemann on drums.

Excellent album.

Released: October 2001
My rating:- 9/10
Stand out tracks: Depraved, In The Wordless Chamber, Thorns On My Grave

One of my favourite albums ever.
From start to finish its a masterpiece of heavy HEAVY music. Layers and layers of guitar, BIG arrangements. Saying that, its a large move away from the traditional Emperor stuff. The bridge in 'Depraved' is one of the heaviest parts of a song i've ever heard.
You need to listen to this album as a whole, and it takes time to sink in, but once it does its an absolute diamond.
