What's up with Yorkshire?

LOL! Going by your map, erm, Darlington is in north yorkshire?

Thus illustrating why you should stick to facts and not base an argument on maps found via google image search.

Dis86 did of course present facts earlier in the thread, he's merely posted an image of a map at your request.

"But many consider Middlesbrough to be a part of North Yorkshire, as historically it was within North Riding. For a time, we were situated in the county of Cleveland, before that was abolished in 1996, leaving us a part of the Tees Valley. It is often argued that we still part of North Yorkshire, although most Yorkshire residents probably wouldn’t claim Middlesbrough as their own, even though some of the outlying residential areas are apparently keen to join the rural county on an official basis."

It's worth noting that darlo was previously in north Yorks until 1936! So my map isn't necessarily wrong either, just out of date. However yes, as pointed out I provided a map showing Middlesbrough in north Yorkshire. As requested.

It seems we're arguing with a wall though. This guy knows better than Yorkshire's council, Middlesbroughs council and the government!

"While it is no longer considered part of the county has developed into a place which bases itself on a strong work ethic, industry and innovation. We are basing this guide on the original Three Ridings of Yorkshire and so this is why it is included."

You're grasping at straws now...

Like I mentioned earlier... WTF???

You've had to actively deny reality/facts from multiple sources and then google to cherry pick something tenuous, a random website and/or maps from google image search, to try and back up your claim.

The problem with that is that there is a simple explanation for that - those maps/websites are either out of date or created by people who have made the same mistake as you have... after all there was a 22 year period where a different county existed and Middlesborough was a part of it. However prior to that it was part of North Yorkshire and again today it is too.

I accept what wiki says but for me Middlesbrough has always been more North East than Yorkshire in terms of accent:p

I'm from Yorkshire, and have family in North Yorkshire.... And this has been a debate that is not new to me, Middlesbrough Redcar etc, are not techinally a part of Yorkshire for anything other than ceremonial purposes. Yes they pop up on stuff like job sites and for tourisim etc, redcar even have "welcome to yorkshire coast" on their sign.

The OS map is from 2015.

So again, to reiterate since for some reason you're really struggling, I've posted links from Middlesbrough council, north Yorkshire council and .gov.uk all stating Middlesbrough is in north Yorkshire and yet you are still saying it's not?

Tell us then, oh sagely one, what county is it in?

Please provide sources from that county, Middlesbrough council and the UK government showing that you're correct.

I've already said that technically they are not actually within the boundary of North Yorkshire and that they are only a part of North Yorkshire for ceremonial purposes. Even wiki is confused, as it puts it in "North East England" and not "Yorkshire and Humber" Why is that?

Only people from ‘Yorkshire’ argue the toss Middlesbrough is not part of ‘Yorkshire’. Not sure why Middlesbrough is not that bad compared to certain parts of ‘Yorkshire’ Seriously!

It seems no one wants to lay claim to the place.

Poor ****ers.

I will go with it being part of North Yorkshire as officially stated on their site.

Crazy that on that blue map posted earlier that Hartlepool was classed as North Yorkshire, now that is a stretch.

You guys in Yorkshire not want Redcar? It's a ghost town currently.

I don't think you understand the difference between counties, boroughs and districts.

You also haven't answered my question, if it's not in the county of Yorkshire, what county is it in?

Technically it is only a part of the county of yorkshire for ceremonial purposes, other than that it is not part of a county, and yes... I do know the difference between counties, boroughs and districts... Funnily enough I was refering to none of them, I was refering to Regions...

What is your source for the boundary of North Yorkshire?
https://www.gazettelive.co.uk/news/teesside-news/yorkshire-boundary-map-tell-you-9391806

Then there was the next map where the line is exactly the same, I was wrong on the date, not 2015 but 2017.

That is just the map you posted before contained within a newspaper article. No link to the actual source or what they're basing that boundary line on?

You're just cherry picking whatever you can find to support the position you chose and then ignoring all the actual facts/evidence to the contrary... why?
