What's with the points system for breaking the rules on the forums?

Last week I broke a rule in GD and was given a point and told it would expire after a while.
Did I miss a thread on this new system? Is there anyway to check how many points you have collected? How many do you have to get to be banned/suspended?

It doesn't seen to be in the FAQ at all, so sorry if it's already been answered. :)

I e-mailed ThunderCat or whatever his name was and didn't get a reply regarding this points system. I couldn't see an obvious post to reference to.

We're not really using automatic bans, so the points are irrelvant. We use them to make sure people know we've warned them and to tell them why.

I haven't had any yet (to my knowledge) yet I seem to upset various people regularly. What constitutes an infraction and what constitutes a ban?
Infractions are just a way to inform the user that they have broken a rule without suspending them for it.

Sensible. And they have a expiration?
This is what you should see in your infractions tab if you've been naughty:

:o

Does this mean I can cause chaos and then be good until they expire (joking) :p

Who's idea was this, is David Blunkett or Tony Blair a mod on here now?

Tough on bans, tough on the causes of bans :p
