What's your car's annoying foibles?

Another one for me both front an rear crank seals have gone so it leaks oil, with the sump only holding 2.5 litres of it. I have to check it everytime i fill up. have to top it up every 1000 miles or so. Its annoying as its just an extra thing to do when i am at the petrol station.

The exhaust!

I must have had it fixed about 3 times now including a full replacement but I keep managing to scrape it on speed bumps!

Also the remote on cable for my sub keeps coming loose behind the radio no matter how much electrical tape I use, should solder it really.

Its just started falling to bits/rusting this past few weeks, been totally reliable for the 2yrs ive owned/abused it. Just coming up to 200k
Now also has a oil leak from the valve cover gasket...which drops oil onto the manifold...which then burns and fills the interior with nice blue smoke :D.

How old is it?

Mine (2000 Accord 2.0 SE VTEC):

clutch is a little funny on occasion (long story, either the fluid or the master cylinder) but we're working on sorting it

the gearbox could be a little less notchy

and the interior trim could be a little more resistant to scuffing (mostly the plastic panel below the seatbelt mechanism, and the door armrest/handles)

Fox, haven't seen you on ***** in ages :p

edit:^^ - whoops..

I've found another one on the S3, you can't turn the rear hi-vis lights on without turning the front fogs on too...

The speometer is not very clearly marked, and at low light levels it's unclear. In the dark it's fine.

Also after a hard drive the turbo glows red so I have to wait for it to cool down.

I would prefer better steering feedback.

(Octavia vRS btw)

Same on the 530 but I don't really see this is a problem becuase I cannot imagine a situation where the visibility is low enough to dictate useage of the rear fog but you not wanting to use the front.

Dual carriageways... Visibility in the rain was poor enough to warrant rear hi-vis lights due to spray, but it wasn't a problem seeing the road ahead, certainly not enough to warrant using front fogs.

The fuel consumption on the S3 when cold is comical, maximum of 15mpg and about 6mpg when cold round town...

Ah well, it doesn't bother me, and annoying hippies is a bonus in my mind :)

(02 S3 owner here).

Is this the new S3 and whats your average mpg?

Yep, new S3 (Had it about 6 weeks now). Average MPG is currently 26, which isn't too bad. It's suffering at the moment as I'm using it for my daily drive to work due to problems with the other car not starting reliably.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread because my new Golf has started really annoying me.

When you park somewhere with the headlights on auto and turn the ignition off, the headlights stay on for about a minute before turning themselves off. Every single time I park the car and walk away from it, someone shouts "Oi mate, you've left your lights on" and I have to explain that they turn themselves off. What is the point of this feature?

To make things worse, the last time I tried to start my car, it wouldn't start, and I blame it on the fact that the bloody headlights had drained the battery slightly when I turned it off

My A6 does that but using the fog lights instead. It's intended so that you can see your way home if you live somewhere which is unlit and it's actually very effective. I'm sure if you RTFM ;) that the 'feature' can be disabled.

I do get told occasionally that I've left my lights on but I simply explain that my car is awesome and has that feature.

I use the 'coming home' lights on my car all the time. They are really useful but, yea, people will keep telling you that your lights on. I went into Sainsburys once and even though they only stay on for 30 secodns I had a tannoy announcement to tell me my lights were on

Crack on the back bumper :(

Lumpy feeling clutch, need to get it checked out soon.

Squeaky shocks, soon to be replaced anyway.

The most annoying thing is when you open the door the buzzer comes on to say you left the keys in. Need to see if the cable can be cut or fuse taken out for it.

The seats aswell, they don't go back into place right when someone gets in the back!

The bumpers are also faded, stupid vuaxhall red paint.

Apart from above I love it.

The iPod thingy I had fitted is ******* useless as it has a mind of its own and is about as integrated as something form the land of unintegrated. The seats creak and rattle when its cold like an old tea cutter, the auto lights seem to prefer sunshine to darkness, the fuel consumption seems to be sitting around 15mpg when I was told to expect 22's and its big sills seem to have an amazing ability to catch the back of your suit trousers everytime you get in. Added to this is a throttle cut off on sport setting so sharp that it feels like its missing and and engine that people would have you believe is the best engine ever, when in fact its not all that and seems flat over 6500 rpm.
