What's your car's annoying foibles?

Little red light above door locking button comes on every morning, no idea what for, need to 'reboot' and it goes off. Drivers side front indicator & passenger side rear don't work, probably needs a new body computer which will be sorted soon. Squeaky front drivers side suspension when cold. Odometer flashes on & off sometines. Heat shield rattles.

Strangely enough, they're mostly electrical :D

This was the same on both of my mum's 5 series estates. Absolute joke to the extent that she hated having to go on hills.

EDIT: *cries upon reading the date of the OP*

mine handbrake was awful, so i removed the rear drums brakes, put my front discs on the rear and fitted some calipers from a puntoGT. sorted now :)

Clio:
Electric sunroof stuck open so had to use a dremel and cut one of the supports off - now closes, though not tightly...
Everything rattles, including now the sunroof....
Really noisy acceleration until warmed up....
Squeaky brakes....
Lack of watertighness somewhere that I havent located....
Oh and being a 1.4 8v its slow as hell!

i thought drums were better than discs for handbrakes, would have just been easier to fix them?

the drums themselves were shot, as were the shoes. the pads and discs were spare because i'd upgraded the fronts and the calipers cost me £20. drums are generally better for handbrakes, but the handbrake mech on a cinquecento is seriously flawed and a pain to keep in tip top adjustment.

Drivers sun visor squeaks and rattles when up, which annoys the heck out of me

Another small rattle just above my head over drivers side door.

Other than that, sound as a pound!

But you leave it in gear when you park (or, you should ;) ) , so you hardly need it.

My old mans e39 failed its MOT as he never uses the handbrake (it seized) he just leaves it in "P". (as I did with the crap foot brake style handbrake in my e38)

My Cars annoying foibles have to include Glow plugs that either work or don't it seems, Aircon that won't switch off (The green light stays on unless I pull the fuse)

Its Diesel and the Fuel stinks.

Zafira (55 reg)

Glovebox catch spring broken so when you open it, the catch doesn't come back out and therefore the glovebox doesn't shut. nothing a good few whacks doesn't sort :)

Engine is unrefined, and sounds like a taxi! (1.9 150bhp Derv).

Drinks oil.

engine management light comes on when it feels like it, drops into limp home mode then goes back to normal when the engine starts up again.

computer controls don't work half the time so I can't scroll through the modes.

1st gear is being a PITA to select as it's getting stiffer by the week!

Build quality isn't brilliant, and there are a couple of rattles when accelerating.

I'm looking at changing it soon for a new mondeo estate, I've had enough of Vauxhall

Pug 306

Clutch is stiff (and it's a new one so bites like a starving 3rd world child)
Annoying vibration on passenger side window
Random cack comes flying through vents when they are on
Attracts huge amounts of spiders for some reason (good job I have no phobia)
Burns a bit of oil
Many more but I can't really complain for £500 :)

205 gti1.9

Central locking works when it feels like it
oil pressure gauge does the same
Brake pad warning light keeps coming on even though it's not connected

2001 Golf 1.6:

- Makes a weird squealing sound for 1 or 2 seconds after a cold start.
- 4th and 5th gear seem exactly the same.
- Too hard suspention...According to my female passengers.
- Drinks petrol like there is no tommorow one week, The next week it seems to use hardly any at all on the exact same trips.
- Seems to use hardly any oil, I want to fill it up but it never seems to need it! :(
- Something rattles behind the dash when going above 50MPH  Think its just some radio wiring but I can't be bothered to fix it :o

CL500:

fuel consmption
poor implementation of ventilated seats
The fact the on board computer insists on putting up a huge sign on the dash telling me a bulb has blown every time I start the engine. You'd think the first time I pressed the reset button it would have got the message that I've noticed its friendly warning, but no, it has to tell me every time I get in the car.

Beetle:

poor heating
requires body builder physique to turn the wheel
loud
attracts too much attention
poor turning circle
slow
no rear window heater
poor ventilation to the windscreen
harsh ride
poor brakes
poor range
inadequate dash lighting
rev counter that oscillates 1000rpm either side of the true rpm at any given moment

Goodness knows why my wife likes it so much.

'99 Honda Civic 1.4S

Reverse is hard to engage.
Cannot get wipers+soap to clean windshield properly.
Headlines don't seem powerful and don't go far enough.
Heaters smell flowery/stale for a few minutes soon after I turn it on.

Octavia vRS.

When raining the water runs right down the back and tips into the boot when you open it, good design!!!! So you end up holding it halfway up for like 5-10 seconds in the rain... and even then some gets in. There's a mod to fix it apparently though so might have to get that done.

There are a couple of rattles now (2001) but I put that fully down to me installing my own sub+amp :D

That's it really, good solid car!

I noticed this on first getting mine. I took the rear hubs off and used a file to "rough" the surface of the handbrake shoes up. Its pretty good right now imho.

Indicators take about 3 minutes to self-cancel.

Driver's window anti-trap function randomly cuts in when putting the window up, therefore putting it back down. And because it only happens once a month or so I forgot to get it fixed when under warranty.

Handbrake is slack and pointless. I only use it from time to time to just keep it in use.
