I quite like The Day the Earth Stood Still, and Quatermass for a British take on Sci-Fi..
The old 50'/60's american sci-fi films were tops.. what was the name of the film with the 8ft tall green monster that had huge claws instead of hands? The human man & woman got taken on board a spaceship and put into big see-through tubes and end up on an alien world.. loved that film, can't for the life of me remember the title tho :o

edit: found it.. This Island Earth : http://www.scifi.com/sfw/issue129/classic.html

I'd forgotten about Dark Star, a real classic.I like your other selections as well.
There is a little known Brit film called ''Hardware'' (IIRC) which has a terminator type machine/robot which when reactivated destroys everything and everyone with Old Testement fever.

I quite like "Hardware", its a Richard Stanley film. His other film "Dust Devil" was pretty good as well. Im quite a fan of Fields of the Nephilim (Stanley directed a few of their early music videos), and Carl McCoy makes an appearence as the desert wanderer that finds the robots head at the start of the film.

where is the little man?

Event Horizon - for horror
T2 - for futre action
Predator - for present day action
Blade Runner / Gattica - for mind

For the real classics I can only echo

This Island Earth
The Day the Earth Stood Still (Possibly the first sci-fi I ever saw when I was about 6) and
Forbidden Planet

I enjoyed Blade Runner, but Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep was a much better book.

For Horror/Sci-fi not a film but a series on BBC The Nightmare Man Gave me the right willies even at 13 (Just found it's been released on dvd woot!!!!!)

Aliens.

I actually managed to get the missus to watch it last weekend, its 20 years since it was released and i've been with her 11 years its my favorite film of all time and she hadnt seen it once.

She didnt move through out the whole film and thought it was fantastic.

"She heard the word alien, thought they ment illegal alien and signed up"
"Screw you man"
"any time any place............."
;)

Oh and my set of 12" colonial Marines turned up last week, all £250 worth of them.
