I cant get the picture to upload to uploadit, they are still in their boxes on my shelf as at the minute i am too gay to take them out.
I can send an email of the swanky holographic boxes if you really want. :)

Good to see a few Dune fans like myself and would love to see a Region 2 version of the 3 hour film

The Andromeda Strain - Brilliant tension and a novel by Michael Crichton

Forbidden Planet - UK DVD release 27th November :D

Blade Runner - classic, speaks for itself

The War of The Worlds - the 1953 George Pal version had ground breaking special effects

2001 - Just mesmirising :)

Gattaca - fab performances...def makes you think

I also own the soundtracks to some of these films...mostly electronic scores which for me gave the films more attention

Carpenter's version of The Thing.

Directors cut of Alien 3 (seriously...it's worth buying the quadrilogy just for this.)

Two oft-overlooked classics.

Starwars
The thing from another world
The Thing(carpenter remake)
Forbiden planet
Bladerunner
When worlds colide
The war of the worlds(origonal)
2001
2010
Day the earth stood still
Alien
Aliens

Pretty much a list of my most loved films

Alien is my favourite film. Ever. I think it's almost perfect (apart from the obsession with the damn cat  )

Is Twelve Monkeys Sci-Fi? Cos I think that's great too.

If you're bringing Carpenter into it then I'd have to rethink my list.

The Thing
They Live
Terminator 1 & 2
Total Recall
Event Horizon
Gattica
Predator
The Running Man

That's in order of sex appeal

THX1138
The Day of the Triffids
Stalker
Solaris (Tarkovsky's version)
A Boy and His Dog
Silent Running
+ All of the other mentioned films

I enjoy all Sci Fi :)

If we're talking the old classics....pre 1970....

War of the Worlds (and the latest Spielberg version is also one of my top sci-fi movies of all time...)

The Day the Earth Stood Still

Invaders From Mars

The Thing From Another World (and of course the Carpenter remake is a classic in its own right)

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (the 70's version was also quite good)

Forbidden Planet

Some of the older members (30+) might remember that BBC2 used to show the old classics during the week at 6pm - there was always something good on! :)

Dune is good, but have you seen *** 3 hour Alan Smithee directed version? its a completely different movie

Are you aware of who Alan Smithee is? It's a name used by any director when they feel that their film has been so butchered by the studio that they refuse to have their real name associated with it. Any film with that credit can therefore be aptly summed up as garbage.

A man with more eclectic tastes. I'd agree with some, but DotT is poor, and Silent Running is embarassing. But Tarkovsky's Solaris is stunning: agonisingly slow, but lingers for years in the memory. I was actually surprised how much the remake echoed it. ABaHD can probably be better summed up as a valiant failure.

The fact is, most all SF on film is rubbish. That might sound harsh, but compare it to TV, where just about all of it is rubbish. Hollywood assumes (largely correctly) that the label "Science Fiction" on a film means that all the audience will expect spaceships, aliens, special effects etc. Note how carefully the clearly SF film The Truman Show avoided being labelled as SF. A shame, because it's one of the best SF films ever made.

Now a question: What is the only SF film to win one of the "Big Five" Oscars (Film, director, screenplay, actor, actress)? Answer it without using a search engine of any kind.

The old 50'/60's american sci-fi films were tops.. what was the name of the film with the 8ft tall green monster that had huge claws instead of hands? The human man & woman got taken on board a spaceship and put into big see-through tubes and end up on an alien world.. loved that film, can't for the life of me remember the title tho :o

edit: found it.. This Island Earth : http://www.scifi.com/sfw/issue129/classic.html

Also, Invaders From Mars - top, top film! http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Hills/3411/plot.htm

Ever see the MST3k version of that? Very good.
