Yes. Actual calculated mpg figures tell me there is no difference between a tank of driving like a saint or a tank of driving like a moron. Likewise, there is no difference between AC on or off, no difference between cruising at 70 or 90.

This is complete rubbish and you know it.

Aside from the fact it's technically ridiculous - does your car break the laws of physics when it comes to air resistence perhaps - my engine is hardly a world away from yours and how I drive and how fast I drive makes a difference.

Well you're either **** at driving in an economic manner or you aren't driving like as much of a moron as you think you are :p

Not often my trip computer shows this :-

Dunno if it's because the car is getting more miles under its belt and loosening up a little or not ( now at 28k ) but the mpg figures seem to be improving lately.

Last tank was 26mpg. I do short trips and don't driv economically. Trying to justify something sillier :p

What car is this sorry, mpg seems awful for what I'm guessing is a fairly modern diesel, my dad manages 43mpg I think from his 2 tonne 3 litre panamera (ddddagggg) Wouild be very disappointed with only just over 40.

It's a Peugeot 4007 SE Irmscher. 40mpg is actually very good for the car. It usually sits at about 35-38 but it's been creeping upwards slowly over a period of time. It'll nudge 48 on an extra urban journey. It's a 4x4 SUV, fairly rare on the roads. Basically a Mitsubishi Outlander but without the dreary 2.0L Volkswagen engine. It weighs @2.4t and unlike a Panamera it possesses all the aerodynamics of a very large brick. Actually no - make that two bricks. :p

Well my £270 160k mile Pug 406 2.1TD has just managed 620 miles to 70 litres which is pretty much bang on 40 mpg.

Mixture of town/dual carriageway driving at peak times in traffic etc. Not bad at all I reckon!

This will be a truly great bangernomics purchase if it passes its MOT in September, hmmm :p

I'm now getting anywhere between 7.3km/l (17mpg) to 9.4km/l (22mpg) depending on whether hooning it or driving like a grandma! Just slightly off the official figures

Urban (cold) 31.7
Imperial Extra Urban 56.5
Imperial Combined 44.1

MINI Cooper S (auto)

Something has to be amiss, surely the figures aren't allowed to be that inaccurate?!

1.8 Mondeo

Just got back from a Euro Road trip (write up to come) and managed almost 46mpg from just cruising on the motorway at 60mph all day. Who needs a diesel ehh!?

60 miles of stop/start town driving and 110 miles of 70mph motorway cruising. Not bad for an old petrol.

Probably being thick but what's this app? I have a Mondeo 1.8 too btw.

edit - just got ahead of myself there, discovered its an iphone / ipad app... wonder if there are any apps like this on android? Really quite brilliant.

In the last week we have gotten the following:

Range Rover Sport TDV8: 22mpg. Mixed driving.

VWGolf 2.0 TDI: 51mpg. Mixed driving although more short journey's than the Range Rover.

Consistent mpg is consistent (Golf MK5 GTI on Tesco 99). Get high 30s/low 40s on a run, but most trips are in town or on single carriage A roads.
