sorry got a bit involved in the banter... but i did in my 1st post... ELITE
no problem... i love posts about old games so i do tend to go off piste a bit on them good post btw. in truth there are so many worthy games over so many years...
edit deleted a last line otherwise may have derailed even more
edit 2
For the record and you are probably aware but
Elite was Elite..........
Frontier was Elite 2.
Frontier 1st encounters was Elite 3 (essentially, the naming goes off here due to licensing issue with Ian Bell the co creator of the original game)
and Elite Dangerous is Elite 4.
being as a PC section, why are Console games included ?
that should be in the console section ?
PC = anything with a keyboard ? so Acorn/BBC/Dragon/Archimedes/Amiga/Atari ST through to all PCs ? etc
Any game counts, as long as not console...... Hrs played have nothing to do with it.
Factorio made the list yet? I couldn't see it. The ultimate time sink and with the mods I just can't see it ever getting boring, and it's just so damn satisfying
I have a few for different platofrms.
PS1 - Metal gear solid, i remember having it on a demo disc and played through it many times until i finally got the game and i think its the only game i have replayed 10+ times all the way through.
PC Online gaming- 3 games, Delta force 2 & Delta Force Black Hawk down, i played the crap out of these online and joined a clan and played matches, which was extremely fun and look back on them days fondly, still great friends with a few people 15 years later! And of course WoW Vanilla, nothing quite like it back in the day and i remember my first raiding experiences with 40 people, what a time that was!
i started playing it that a whole night went by and when i went down for dinner i thought id been playing for 30 mins, it was 6 hours later, my dinner was cold and my ex-wife was furious with me.
Skyrim
Mass Effect 1,2,3
Mafia 1
Half-life
Far Cry 3
OP - TFC is team fortress classic. You've got to separate entries.
Speedball 2 i still go back and play it regularly...
Can I choose a game when it was in a certain state and not how it is now?
If so, PUBG just before it was properly released was one of the best games i've ever played in my adult life. All I could think about all day at work was getting home and jumping on with my usual squad, some of the epic battles, hilarious moments and the heart rate spiking final circles just can't be beaten in my mind.
It's a shame that it just flopped so hard for me, when they started changing the loot tables around and introducing the new maps I just fell out of love with it, as well as the massive wave of hackers when it properly released. Suppose that's just the way of gaming now with cosmetic items trading for real money.
If I can't have that small 12 month window of PUBG, then I think i'd have to say Battlefield 2.
Reminds me of a simpler time, both in my life and gaming.
Being 13-16 and having a core group of friends to play with every night, as well as my dad and some of his friends.
One of my fondest memories of BF2 was on Mashtuur City, with someone flying a black hawk, two people on the guns and the other 3 or 4 seats filled with squad mates. Pilot would drop us high over a cap point on the 64 player version of the map, we'd parachute into the point, clear the enemy with the help of the chopper gunners and start capping ready for the chopper to come pick us up to move to the next point, all with great comms and tactics.
Again, changes to the game after a few years turned it into 24/7 Karkand Infanty Only Nade fests which just got frustrating as you couldn't really move more than 50m without being blown to bits by a grenade, which took away the tactical squad element of clearing points and securing then holding them
Shenmue.
Gran Turismo.
Tomb Raider.
Goldeneye if you can stand the low FPS.
Resident Evil 2 / CVX
Most games go from my earliest memories of gaming as they have the largest impact just like everyone else's.
@Combat squirrel thanks for making this thread and updating the first post.
Not sure if you are still doing this but my answer:
Eve Online.
Thinking back the fun I got out of this game, and amount of hours, has to be.
