WhatsApp Down?

Same, I work for VMware. Definitely looks to be a DNS issue, perhaps a deliberate attack.

One of my first thoughts was an attack. As I understand it's highly unlikely for a simulteanous failure across the board with an international server setup.

Could just be a IT Admin accidentally deleted the DNS record instead of updating it. Can see someone getting fired over that if it was a simple mistake.

I'm not on Facebook, but I just tried the website and it is indeed down for me, as a Virgin Media customer.

WhatsApp won't connect and YouTube videos are constantly buffering.

:(

Working in enterprise networking myself this is always the first thing i picture, that and someone trying to cover up that they made a mistake during a change or similar :D

Cant beat the rush that comes with screwing something up and then trying to fix it without anyone noticing before the service desk lights up.

How do nameservers get resolved?

The nameservers for facebook.com are:
A.NS.FACEBOOK.COM
B.NS.FACEBOOK.COM
C.NS.FACEBOOK.COM
D.NS.FACEBOOK.COM

How does the address of a nameserver get resolved when it's on the same domain as the address it holds the records for?
