When are you going fully electric?

If the MG5 had a Kia badge it would be considered a game changer, but it largely flies under the radar with the masses. It’s a good car for what it costs.

I’ve yet to see an ZS EV in the flesh and they’ve been out for awhile.

yes - some mg5 reviews criticized rear suspension/ride (the biggest criticism I really retained) but hyundai (rising star like kia) kona's have the same torsion beams -
- the power of brand advertising.

suv - ev's down the line they could carry across the taxation strategy for petrol and replace g/km by wh/km ? spookey

always have chagrin - road tax is currently more than my ~200 insurance.

How much will road tax will be for electric lorries in uk ?
Germany honestly taxes ev's based on weight after grace https://kfz-steuer.wiki/en/electric-vehicle-tax-germany/

you could say it is more important now, as a likely indication of ev range at motorway speeds, and ... why you might want a saloon.
manufacturers could be obliged to disclose it/both so we could differentiate if the wltps are a product of good aero or efficient transmission.
can't see what CdA of an I-pace is - data table which ranks ev's for motorway range+other criteria http://johnhwman.free.fr/Divers/Comparatif_VE.pdf

thought this was a interesting real life ev review by a mechanic travelling around servicing ev's (lots of changing cabin filters in x', s's ...) - solid 200miles/practicality
Cheap, Chinese And Amazing - MG5 EV

Yes - EV drivers and range concern due to slow refills. Dont think many cared about range in ICE. You could get a ncie two seater to get long range but then youd need two to move the family.

As said there are benefits to bigger cars, with more drag, that outweigh range deficit. As said many times, 200miles is prob enough for 95% of journeys so dont really see the issue.

Not realistic unless they come from China.

A RHD made in Berlin Model Y isn’t happening this year. The factory isn’t operational yet and they’ll be making LHD versions first for the (much larger) LHD EU market like they did for the Model 3.

Hmmm so looks like to tick the family “SUV” practical box, it’s iX3, Enyaq or possibly EQC/ETron.

(Or Taycan Cross Turismo)

enough for 99% of all journeys made apparently.

I would happily buy an EV but I would want a 350 to 400 mile range, not because I want to do that sort of mileage in one go once in a blue moon, but because I don’t have a drive way so would have to charge using public charge points. Having to charge it up once every 2 to 3 weeks is a manageable faff to my life, having to charge every week puts it into the too much hassle column

Honestly wonder what the long term solution to this is going to end up being. One of the massive benefits to an EV to me is the ultra easy and convenient way that it would just sit in the garage permanently topped off every morning like a mobile phone, and without any fuel tax either as a sweetener. Absolutely perfect once the technology matures to the point that good used ones are at a reasonable price point. (This just seems amazing, and i really cant wait until i can get into a decent one for a price which is acceptable to me).

For people with no charging at home though, i think they look incredibly unattractive and unless they can charge near instantly i don't see them as very workable. Think of the streets and streets of terraced in the towns..so many cars all unable to charge reliably.

I certainly wouldn't have ever considered an EV had I not been able to fit a home charger. The EV Facebook groups/forums are full of people moaning about 'ICEd' charging spots, or EV drivers who dare to charge over 80% battery when others are waiting. Not a situation I'd want to be in on either side.

Its a very valid question. I can see it ending up being an 'added value' type thing for leisure activities with relatively quick chargers. "Shop and charge" at your local outlet village for example.

I guess rapid charging would absolutely fit with the lifestyle of people who meet up with friends for a coffee etc. Some real opportunities out there for businesses that can latch on to the idea at the opportune time, unfortunately it will probably only be the likes of Costa, Starbucks etc. with the resources to pump in and get the early advantage.

Before I got my iPace I was really worried about range being an issue. I've charged it once in 6 months away from home. Managed several 200+ mile round trips without issue.

The convenience of topping up at home and cheap fuel/BIK vs the infrequent public charge is a no brainer.

I got myself a white/white 2021 Model 3 SR+, super happy with it. It was the same price as a regular car even before taking into account that I don't have to pay for petrol. It is the most fun car to drive I've ever had (car history includes a 2002 BMW 325i, a new RX8 in 2004, and a new 2019 MX5 RF).

Last Sunday a young 22-year-old decided to pay more attention to her phone than the road and mashed into my rear bumper. I've supplied the rear camera footage to the insurance company.

I don’t think there are any AWD MEB platform cars out there yet. The etron Q4 is effectively an ID.4 in a different set of clothes. All the underpinnings are the same.

My SR+ combined a bit of fun plus low cost to run so I sold my RX7 of 10 years. I will miss it but not the maintenance and fuel cost.

My previous i3 was hit on the rear alloy wheel the same day I picked it up by a yoof pulling on to a roundabout along side me. Who then decided to move in to my lane! Thankfully just the wheel was damaged, driveable but heavily scratched.

I guess he didn't expect my poxy town car to still be along side his Type R after puling away.
