When are you going fully electric?

The whole green EV thing is just so full of s&^5.

Because the alternative (oil) has great environmental credentials doesn't it... no one drives an EV to 'save the planet'. Cars in general have a huge environmental impact, EV's are just the lesser of two necessary evils.

It's worth thinking about the whole lifecycle of oil when considering emissions, not just what comes out of your car which is only a proportion of it:

Just getting it out of the ground can turn into an environmental disaster before its even burnt:

Well my CLS which I was toying with swapping is currently in for £1k+ repair so definately now seriously looking to jump to all electric

TM3 and Polestar 2 are two Im considering, Any more suggestions ?

Range and seating 4/5 people comfortably are the main drivers over speed

Mustang Mach-E
Ioniq 5
Kia EV6

They are good options if you want an SUV, quite different coming from a CLS though.

@{SAS}TB Polestar 2 and Model 3 are basically your lot in anything that remotely resembles a CLS at the moment. Everything else is an SUV or a cheaper hatch/crossover.

Looks are subjective, Polestar pinches it for me but its more expensive. In short:

Model 3 has a better drive train, cheaper (for the spec), gets more range for the cash and has far superior charging options.

Polestar 2 has a better interior/build and is a full hatchback (if that's an issue, probably not if you have a CLS).

EDIT: Forgot there is the Tycan or e-Tron GT which are very CLS-esque if you have a £100k to spend and the BMW i4 and Merc EQE can't be that far away (next year?).

I have tried a number of SUV style EVs recently and settled on the Q4 50 Sportback. I found it to have the right mix of pracitcality, interior space, performance, quality and styling that it was ultimately my choice over the Ioniq 5, ID4, EV6 and Mach E. Having said that those other EVs all have their merits and regardless of which one you chose you will end up with a very nice electric family SUV.

Thanks bit none of them do it for me although I have read a lot of Parise for the Ioniq

Tbh I'm not a fan of the CLS either, lol.

The i4 and Merc EQs may be worth a look (the Mrs has a CLA hybrid and it is very nice)

I've driven the Tesla and think once (if) the rapid acceleration novelty wears off you are left with a (imo) very bland cockpit of a car, im all for minimalist that that's possibly a step too far.

The Polestar looks the part externally and a bit more like interior wise too and reasonably priced

Thanks both and looks like I'm talking my way into a Polestar - will have to get a test drive booked ....

From what I have seen most reviewers preferred the EV6 over the Ionic 5 and I'm leaning that way myself despite them being very similar on paper.

Ionic 5 looks nice on the photos but I saw one in the metal the other day and it put me off some what and I don't think it will age well. I don't know why but it in the pictures it looks small but its a pretty big car in the metal.

As @ICDP suggested, the Q4 eTron is in that segment, its more expensive but very well received.

Yeah, passed a few on the motorway today and we're a bit meh.

Did forget to say I quite like the look of the iD4 but the Mrs doesn't so that's that one ruled out :D

The ID.4 has a 'not up to the usual VW standard' interior too so it will feel like a downgrade compared to the CLS you have as well, the Q4 eTron is much better in that regard but you do pay for it. From a drivetrain perspective the two cars are pretty much the same though.

Yeah, I also felt the EV6 was way nicer in real life than the Ioniq 5 and that the Ioniq 5 will suffer from looking "so last year" in a year or two. I just don't think that small hatch styling works on such a large car, I also found the iris style wheel arches on the Ioniq 5 looked cheap and tacky IMHO. The EV6 looked stylish and normal but with modern yet not way overdone styling.

After testing quite a few SUV EVs it was down to the Q4 50 Sportback Vorsprung, EV6 AWD GT and Mach-E AWD ER. The Q4 won out in the end because it was the cheapest of all 3 for me in my work lease scheme. It was also the only one with the adaptive suspension and felt the most refined on the road. Though I would be happy with either one to be fair, it was that close and each had their merits.

For some reason the IPace lease pricing was way higher than all those others, it was about £100 per month more expensive. So it was ruled out on that basis alone and wasn't even worth considering. Had it been similarly priced I would certainly have considered and tested one.

I wonder how many coal powered power stations sent electric to the factory that built this ?

I've always held ocuk forums in such high regard but it's members seem to be repeatedly dogged with the social media horse **** they belt feed themselves these days.

Wait, you mean that you really believe all the following is not fake news?
  1. New diesel and petrol cars don't just appear on dealer forecourts ready to sell?
  2. That the factories they are made in aren't powered by pixie dust?
  3. That the fuel ICE cars use doesn't just magically appear in garages up and down the country?
  4. That the oil pumps that extract the oil don't use massive amount of electricity?
  5. That refineries don't use massive amount of engergy heating and refining oil to make diesel and petrol?
  6. That the oil tanker ships don't use massive amount of fuel to transport the oil to the refineries?
  7. That oil tankers trucks don't use considerable amounts of diesel transporting fuel from refinteries to the garages?
  8. That ICE cars continue to pollute once they roll of the production line, unlike EVs?
Wow, how can anyone be so stupid. I jest of course :)

Worth a watch and quite educational. If you see some of the morons trott out the usual BS on facebook/instagram etc just link this.

Been looking into the Mini Electric and the Honda-e. But also considering the Mazda MX-30.

Just a smallish EV with all the sensors and camera tech, not got the best eyesight and depth can sometimes be an issue. Most reviews I've read/watched are mostly positive.

Don’t forget the e208, looks the pick for small cars atm I think.

The Mini is a BEV stuffed into the ICE platform so I would avoid it for that reason alone.
