When are you going fully electric?

Had my first long drive this weekend from Northampton to Central Manchester in the I-Pace. 144 miles averaged 3.1 mi/KWh and average speed of 54 mph return was longer as got diverted around Coventry as M6 was closed, 157 miles average of 3.2 mi/KWh. Charged using a BE.Ev unit when we got there, all worked perfectly and the I-Pace was was one of the most relaxing drives that we've done and we've done that journey in a fair mix of cars over the years.

Really pleased with the car and how it behaved, did everything perfectly and there were other chargers on the route which I could have used if the one I had aimed for wasn't available.

Software and features will be the motivating force then. One could say the same about PC's now.. You dont *need* a new processor/GPU but we still buy them :)
You reckon? I think we have plateaued big time (or maybe I've just grown up). Digital dash, Android Auto, decent speakers - all of my main gripes for upgrading are gone?

Nice to get the first big drive out the way.

I doubt your average U.K. jag buyer would know that happened.
I did... i think i posted about it here.... but maybe it was on speakev forum............ either way, i am not worried about mine, quite the opposite, actually a little bit interested as it could mean a new battery in my car if they did end up doing a recall here....... not holding my breath mind you

The i Pace is more like 2-2.5 IIRC so it would be an amazing improvement.
its been nice weather so it will go down hill but apparently since getting my ipace - and with a bunch of different driving done in it, motorway, country roads and enthusiastic A roads, i am apparently averaging 2.8m per kwh ..... not amazing, but still far better than any ICE car, and for a large practical performance family car i can live with that.

2.2 - 2.5 in an I-Pace is more like winter efficiency with 2.2 being terrible weather on a long motorway trip. My own experience for winter is about 2.6 combined efficiency. Summer is between 2.7 (motorway) - 3.3 (combined) on average.

It is not an efficient EV and has a poor charging curve, but I knew that when I leased it

Is that reported from the car or from what you are putting in after charging losses etc?

I'm doing about 2.2 to 2.7 an for me a good diesel would match those costs as a commuter vehicle and of course be loads cheaper to buy, though I guess that's because I don't have cheap electric @ 26p. ( Well I do its free for the most part but I don't count on that lasting )

My numbers I posted earlier are from the Jag remote app, quite happy with 3+ on a long journey, and see 3 reasonably frequently, haven't had it through a very cold period yet, but even in March, which was cold this year was seeing just under 3. Even at a rounded 3 I think 2.5p a mile is pretty good for a car of this type. My Mrs Mini Electric has had some days over 5 on her commute, but it is significantly smaller, lighter and less powerful. It does mean her commute is costing less than 50p a day

I hate to break it to you but your typical Jag buyer is not browsing OCUK or SpeakEV forums :)

You think the batteries will last that long?
some will fail but for the most part.... i hope so.

nissan leafs have the worst batteries out there, the tech and battery management has come on in leaps and bounds, and yet there are plenty of 10 year old leafs still with 10 out of 12 bars of health on them... and i consider the leaf mk1 to be a worst case scenario really.

the bigger the battery and longer the range of car, the fewer times the battery will need to be cycled for the same range as well.

so a leaf battery with 70 mile useable range will go through more charge cycles than a tesla M3 with 240 mile range for the same over all milage.

if you want to get a feel for how well a car holds up........ as a taxi driver..... and as dLockers mentioned above, the Prius is doing pretty well and that is a firm favourite with taxi drivers.
imo the only reason we do not see more pure electric taxis (and i do see some) is the charging infrastructure.... but even then, i wonder how many local cabbies do more than 200 miles driving in a day?

My 2015 Leaf now has done 70k miles and only has lost about 10% of the effective charge. Since we've had it we've almost exclusively used the granny charger. We should be getting a bidirectional 6kWh charger from Indra's V2H scheme fairly soon which will be interesting.

You think the batteries will last that long?

Seems like it. Batteries can be replaced as well.

This would be my worry, my iPace hasn't filled me with confidence and JLR really cheaped out on the entertainment system. When my iPace was in the dealer for 3 months I had a Velar that was pretty flakey too.

Thats sad to hear. I honestly thought JLR had learnt their lesson and finally started putting decent entertainment systems in their cars as up to a few years ago they were awful. Like 10 years behind the opposition.

Minsta yours a pre 21MY without PIVI pro I assume?

In terms of battery life… this is where the charge speed being “poor” isn’t a poor thing.

Yeah Touch Pro Duo I think? It's not great, laggy, buggy (logs itself out constantly), no remote map updates. Mapping software is utterly unreliable for charging points.

I just use Android Auto to save the pain but even that is buggy with audio refusing to work at times.
