I have got a feedback of over 400 and had very little problems with ebay over the years.

However i purchased an item in January, which basically was the wrong part. I complained sent them them 10s of photos and eventually they agree that if i sent back the item Id get a refund. Item was sent back recorded.

After waiting and asking politely, i put in a complaint to ebay. they promised to look into it within 72 hours...that was 3 weeks ago.

Its only £20 but its the principal of it, dont like feeling like Im ripped off.

Is this normal to wait so long? Shall I try paypal?

If I have a problem as a buyer, I always bypass eBay resolution and just file a dispute with PayPal, login and find the transaction, put up the details, then instantly escalate it to a PayPal representative, the seller has a few days to respond before PayPal just refund you if the buyer doesnt, providing you can prove it went back by putting up your RM consignment number

You'll find most sellers act fairly quickly when the dispute is raised with PayPal rather than eBay

Do you actually contact the seller first? I am a business seller on eBay and nothing gets my back up more than this being the first contact I get when there is a problem.

Did they send you the wrong part, or did you buy the wrong thing?
Certanly not, it was advertised as fitting my model but did not - I persevered and sent them many photos to show that the product was faulty.

I contacted them, waited a few days and called them, then they asked me to email photos, then more photos, then they lost them so more photos a week later and then they refused to send a replacement and told me to send it back at my cost, which I sent by recorded.

Am I lucky to have never had a problem before? I did expect more support and 72 hours > 3 weeks is a joke...the public sector this isnt!

That was more directed to jimlad. You have been more than patient tbh! And you are not liable for the return postage, they made the mistake, not you. Escalate the claim now

I've never dealt with ebay before or sold/bought anything there but I am wanting to sell my 460's and its things like this that put me right off. Is it a common occurence to get ripped off on ebay??

Genrally aslong as you play it safe the majority of ebay users are actual buyers you just get the few ****s who think they can **** around.

It's not common at all, taken in the context of how many transactions go through every day,

Except its not. You hear 1 or 2 threads per week maximum. I have never had an unresolved issue on eBay as a personal buyer or seller.

I have had more problems with online etailers than eBay!

Yes of course, I am also a business seller on a seperate account. The problem is, as the OP is finding out himself, when you contact big companies through eBay they just don't bother doing anything until they HAVE to, which is usually when a PayPal dispute e-mail lands in their inbox.

Other people shouldn't let these kind of threads put them off of eBay, as someone above mentioned its relatively small in comparison to the amount of transactions that take place daily, the problem is you only see threads about the bad side, never the good

I had the same thing happen last year, bought a starter motor on ebay which was listed as being suitable for the 330Ci, when it arrived it was no where near the same size, so contacted the seller, had no reply from him so filed a dispute with paypal, the seller didnt reply to that either and within 10 days paypal refunded my money even without returning the starter motor.

You have my sympathy dilated! I'm on the verge of a potential problem with a seller who claims the item they sent by royal mail was returned to him undelivered. He claims it was sent with recorded delivery but as I understand that process, they would at least attempt to redeliver the item at another date. This has not happened.....
Happy to be patient and give the benefit of the doubt but thats two weeks now... Hope you get your issue resolved.

if ebay said they would be back to you after 72 hours and they didnt

why did you wait 3 weeks,, call/email them again, surley after a coupld of days

I'm a bit confused. If, let's say i put a GTX123 on the bay and the buyer then said it was faulty and decided to file a claim with paypal, would i have to take the card back and refund the buyer - or do i actually get a say in it?

Actually, that is wrong. They will not attempt to redeliver it at all. You get a card through the door, and you have to go to the delivery office (callers office) and pick it up. After 3 weeks standard items are then returned to the sender. Recorded delivery items are sent back after 1 week.

PhillyDee, thats possibly the case. But, its not been three weeks yet and I did not get a failed delivery attempt from the postie. Either way, the item should not have been returned to the sender after one attempt to deliver it. Until i get the tracking number from the seller, I'll remain a bit suspicious.
