When is Valve's multi core patch getting released?

Indeed Source engine runs beautifully..
Imagine the Gary's Mod mayhem after the multi-core patch comes out, it will be scary :)

indeed. the source engines is one of the best engines ive used tbh. scales well, decent effects and visuals can be obtained. the only gripe i have with it, is that sometimes it can appear....flat. but still, its a great engine, and now with multicore! can have some hectic battles now.

Source already runs amazingly fast with dual core support it will be out of this world. I read somewhere along the lines of literally twice as fast this means I'll score near 200fps average in TF2 with everything cranked to absoloute max, 1680x1050 16xAA/AF

It may run smooth, but Source is fast showing its age, even in the latest version;

There is a reason your grandmother's computer can run Half Life 2.

Doesn't look that bad to me.
In fact aside from some of the next-gen titles which are in betaphase (Crysis) I don't think graphics in FPS have improved all that much since 2004 (FC/D3/HL2).

Uuuurg! i hope Fakefactory makes a HI-Def pack for EP:2 now. that looks vile.

Nice try, but thats HL2 on low/med settings

From all the gameplay trailers, the Vortigaunt looks far more detailed than that, with quite a nice bump map on his skin

first off, yaboy, the office is freaking fantastic.

secondly, anyone that thinks multicore might help them, drop down resolution from whatever you normally play at, if framerate goes up, its because your cpu is capable of more, as it should be, you're playing gpu limited resolution, why would cpu power help you?

if you drop res and see no decrease in framerate, why are you playing at a resolution below what your gfx can handle :p

i don't think anything above a i dunno, 1.6Ghz ath 64 wouldn'0t run the source engine fine, its a non issue. a future multithreaded upgrade will only be useful for future effects, not there yet. why do people think css is cpu limited, other than because the latest gfx cards can give 100's fps in high res, more frames aren't going to make a difference there either.

Source is totally CPU limited ...

I play at 1280by 1024 with an x1800xt 512 all on max (4aa 8 AF) and I get between 50 - 100 fps on css. I replaced my card with a 8800GTS (my mates) for a day and I got almost the same fps. With his c2d overclocked to 3.2 Ghz he gets 200 - 300fps which trumps my 3500+ 64 AMD at 2.55Ghz :o

css is cpu limited....half life 2 isnt.

same engine but different games

Well im sure that the case with TF2 is the same as with CSS and lets face it better performance is needed in competive fps multiplayer ... single player isn't as important although a stable fps is nice.

Thanks for pointing it out though :)

Cheers
Andy
