When the Gpu's prices will go down ?

Remember the claim that GPU prices were high, not because they could sell at a higher price to miners, but because shipping costs were high. Isn't it strange that costs of gpus are dropping now that crypto profits are down and mining is likely to become less profitable in the summer, yet the price of transporting cards is even more expensive now. If it was down to shipping costs shouldn't a gpu be at an all time high rather than dropping, freight costs have only risen since the war in Ukraine, not gone down, MSN

Shipping costs have been steadily declining recently. I was on a call a couple of days ago and some ships leaving china arent even full. Airfreight prices are also dropping.

Shipping prices are indeed lower, but from a peak that was 10x higher than 2 years ago. Capacity from China in my experience though is still hard to find - certainly at a good price. And now there are little gems in the mix such as 'security costs'. Any opportunity to make even more vulgar profits by the shipping companies. Shipping however cannot be a significant part of a GPU's costs considering how many would fit on a 40ft container.

Pleased to hear that although I understand that the rates are still significantly high with a quote over $14k a 40' container Shipping from China to the UK [Updated March 2022] | Freightos

That website shows air freight price of 19 dollars a kg if they book 100kg (you only need to fly 57 AMD 6800 into the UK to achieve that price). My 6800 says the box has a weight of 1.764kg. Add a bit extra for the weight of the pallet per box. So shouldn't the current cost to air freight a 6800 into the Uk be about £30 to £40. The current selling price of a 6800 is £799+ retail, an increase on the MRSP significantly more than £30 to £40. The increase in shipping is also less than £30 or £40 as they would have had to pay some shipping anyway if they did still sell at MRSP

I ordered some rat traps from a chinese ebay account. I've ordered lots of things from China actually which arrived in boxes bigger than a GPU. I'm talking about cheap products for around £15 - £20 with free P&P from China. In a box that could house a GPU. You can buy all kinds of rubbish from China for such low cost.

So if you put a GPU in the same size box, how does it inflate the GPU cost by 300%???? Insurance???

I can understand shipping costs pushing the price of a 3080 from £650 to £660. Not £1000+

Shipping is only perhaps 5% to blame.

Still odd to see the prices on Ebay, for example I can see a couple of Founders 3060 Ti's already with bids over £590. You can now easily get branded card now below £540 here and from other well known retailers, maybe people either have too much cash or are just lazy.

It will be a combination of things though including what Gibbo said as thats something personally I wouldnt have thought of but its happening with other businesses.
@Gibbo has shipping costs come down too or are they still high ?

No change in shipping cost, to which I said to a few partners so when you blamed the increases on shipping cost then, how come now it drops. No comment, though in fairness the prices are still not good enough to get back towards MSRP yet.

Our 3080Ti at £1099 I believes is Europe's lowest price and OcUK was first. :)

Prices are certainly looking a lot more promising - I've been so close to buying a PS5 over the past few months due to the cost of getting a decent new GPU, my indecisiveness may have proven fortunate.

Some of the 6700xt's are starting to look good pricewise too £548/£599

Yes were one of very few or only UK partner at £549 for a 6700 XT. :)
Pushing more brands to do similar. :)

Do you think it'll happen before they have a full warehouse, would it be more likely for them to be happy sit on what they have and see what sells until next gen gets closer ?

I see you have a 3060's in now for around £400, progress !

There is more to it than the freight cost itself, you have handling charges, fuel charges, security charges, airline security charges etc. . its been a few years since ive done Air imports, im strictly ocean at the minute. But you're right, its still around it still expensive. My customer is currently paying just over $11k out of china for a container but they literally import around 80 containers a week with me, this is down from $18k in Q4 of last year.

It slowly coming down though which is great.

I think more cards will hit £549 and I think eventually as in next month or so they will all be sub £600.

The hard bit is getting them sub £500 as even AMD only seem willing to support down to £549 which only MSI has achieved as at that price we earn a rebate from AMD.

Personally I think NVIDIA caught AMD off guard with their recent big drops across the range so I think AMD will launch a new programme next month to become more competitive so we may see even lower prices then.

But nothing is guaranteed at moment as crypto is moving up, war could end, Covid could hit back hard and we could be back to crazy prices again in no time.

Right now buying a GPU has a gamble element as the pricing could drop but it could also go up. I’m hoping for more drops personally as OcUK is doing a great job at been the first to drop prices and watching competitors trying to keep up which is proving great for our business.

Don't care how long it take's can wait it out for over a year from now till price's are normalised, have my dirt cheap 3060Ti FE....
