When was the last time that you used a pencil?

It seems even tradespeople use Sharpie style pens these days instead of a pencil.
I guess it is becoming increasingly common for tradespeople to use Sharpie-style pens instead of a pencil. They are more durable and can make writing on hard surfaces much easier. Additionally, the ink is less likely to smudge or get erased, which can be especially useful when working with construction materials.

I used to work for a GMP laboratory, writing using a pencil could have had me 'keelhauled' by the MHRA.
I'm now working for a university, so I write using a pencil at every opportunity :D

I sometimes do sudoku or killer sudoku so mechanical pencils are mandatory. I use them for DIY if I can find one.

I used one a few days ago to make a note of something. It was the first writing device I found.

Yesterday, I'm building a flightcase.
I also use one at work, more efficient than biro's.

isn't there a story that USA spent a million inventing a space pen and the Russians used a pencil :)

There's a big, thick "builder's" pencil in the garage for marking up wood. Haven't used it for a few months, but it gets used. Hope my grandad would approve. It was his and he died in '76 (I've only been using it a couple of years... it's not *THAT* big!)

There's also a pencil in the greenhouse, for marking (terracotta) pots. And there's a pot within arm's reach with about half a dozen in for list/note duty. Pens sometimes let me down and I like backup.
