Where are you getting your Turkeys?

I pretty much cook all big joints or whole birds with a thermometer these days.

The included instructions always air on the side of cremation and they actually take way less time than stated.

A meat thermometer is a must tbh, I find our oven gets quite hot, certainly with chicken it cooks quicker than what the guidance advises.

could have a thread on what pre-prepared christmas food do you buy ... marzipan and fondant icing ? would buy puff pastry for a wellington I guess.

Turkey crowns - do wonder where the rest of the turkeys go ? we usually fight over the brown leg meat, so if you could buy free range(ish) turkey legs , one each, that would be fine.

Did anyone go shopping for a fresh one yesterday? I read that was when most shops would be selling them - providing they had stock.

Are the pre-orders guaranteed - or can they substitute ?

good idea, just need to make room, recommission the old fridge-freezer in the garage (1Kwh/day)
but a bird in the freezer is worth two on pre-order.

Waitrose substituted my order last year. I pre-ordered a Sirloin of Beef for our Christmas lunch but when I went to pick it up from the counter they told me they didn't have one delivered so they substituted it for an equivalent. That 'equivalent' turned out to be a brisket of beef :o .

I guess this is always a gamble with pre-ordering. They can't give what they don't have.

Aldi, yesterday, seem to have turkeys labelled defrosted, and, they are visibly defrosting, adjacent to other xmas non frozen, free range editions.,

am ambivalent if we go for turkey, the smaller 4/5Kg ones have a disproportionate weight of bones versus 7/8Kg, just three, so don't need 7/8 .
so maybe gammon/beef we already purchased; sausage meet stuffing will have to be cooked outside of a bird, though.

I'm wondering if this is related... gressingham wanted to freeze its birds asap and sell defrosted as fresh a few months later for xmas:

What happened to companies giving employees a turkey at Christmas time? Does anyone have experience of this? It would certainly be a more useful gesture than a cheap gift voucher for something that you or a family member are unlikely to ever use.
