Where do I stand?

Wow, £1500 insurance for a clio. Is it a sporty model like the 180bhp version? If not, then you must be either very young, have a load of convictions or not looking in the right place for insurance.

It's only a 1.2, I'm nearly 20 and I've searched the internet high and low, been on every comparison website but cannot get it any lower! My postcode falls under category E for insurance. :(

When I was 17, I paid £1565 for a years 3rd party insurance on a 1.1 litre, H reg, carb, 44bhp Fiesta.

£1500 insurance isn't a lot these days by any means, even on a sensible, small, slow car for a young guy.

If it's a 2.0 then it must be a 172 at that year. So no suprise as to the insurance quotes.

£1600, even on a 1.2 Clio doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

In fact, at 19, it would surprise me if you could get a quote lower than that on just about any car (assuming you have no NCB, and don't front your insurance policy).

It is worth shopping around though - you might be able to find something closer to the £1200 mark. Look at confused, and then *ring* the cheapest places directly to get quotes.

Have you tried going to the actual insurance websites, or calling them? you can get cheaper than the comparison sites. Also as has been said, try Bell, try Adrian Flux, how long have you been driving?

You're doing it wrong. You shouldn't be paying £2k on a 1.2 Clio or £3k (!!) on a 1.4 Fiesta unless you live in a slum in Glasgow. Or am I missing something, and is Glasgow a bad insurance area?

Either way, don't use comparison sites. Get quotes individually from sites like Directline, Bell, Admiral, Elephant, Endsleigh etc

Bell was the company that messed the quote up^^.

I've been trying to get quotes from individual insurers, I've even phoned a few. I was recommended Quinn by a mate who said their cheap for young drivers, ended up getting a quote for £3K.

I've been driving for less than a month, not done my pass plus yet and the area isn't bad i think it's the overall postcode that's a let down, there is a few dodgy areas around here.

Not sure of the rules regarding named drivers - do they have to live at the same address?

If not then could you add a relative (or other adult you trust and know locally) as a named driver.

Possibly worth a punt as it should push your insurance costs down.
