Where do I stand?

Is this your car? You're bound to pay a premium in that area.

How much was the car?
Just over 3K, which I can afford, but paying £150+ a month on insurance on top of petrol, parking and any other expenses is just too much, especially on my part-time wage.

So, I'm thinking it's perhaps best to look at a car + insurance, all for under £3K, at least for a year to get the insurance down.

Bell was the company that messed the quote up^^.

I've been trying to get quotes from individual insurers, I've even phoned a few. I was recommended Quinn by a mate who said their cheap for young drivers, ended up getting a quote for £3K.

I've been driving for less than a month, not done my pass plus yet and the area isn't bad i think it's the overall postcode that's a let down, there is a few dodgy areas around here.

Well given that you know a mate of mine from school you're roughly near me i guess.

Me as a 20 year old, held my license for nearly a year but have not driven and was looking at clio 1.2s aswell the lowest i got was £1200 using comparison sights. My brother works for quikfit insurance now so i hope i can get a good price via him when i need it!

I also considered the older shape 1.4 clios so save money but i don't know if i could take the interior at all!

I'm sure we could all post a picture of ridiculous insurance quotes, or was that really the cheapest one you were offered?

Which company was that with? We should have a very similar postcode.

It was just one thrown up by confused.com. Can't remember to be precise.

I'm using ML3 9PX postcode.....ml3 9 is quite bad on the insurance database thing.

£1600, even on a 1.2 Clio doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

In fact, at 19, it would surprise me if you could get a quote lower than that on just about any car (assuming you have no NCB, and don't front your insurance policy).

It is worth shopping around though - you might be able to find something closer to the £1200 mark. Look at confused, and then *ring* the cheapest places directly to get quotes.

Under £1600 is perfectly possible aged 19!

My quote stands at around £900 TPFT for a group 6 car over the Clio being group 3, and I'm 2 years younger.

You must live in a pretty dodgy area!

Sorry to bump this annoying thread but obviously my problems haven't went away and I have a question!

Is it a crime to lie about your occupation? I'm a student but work part time, so I've putting 'full time education' down. Would I get my backside well and truly kicked for putting down 'full time employment'? Not sure how it would effect the price of the premiums.

Also would effect if you drove to work (commuting).

I recently had best results with directline and they do not feature on any comparison sites. Massively cheaper than competition and I like the idea of retaining NCB if hit by an uninsured driver, although I have not read the small print.
